My family of 4 (two in our 50s and 19 and 20 year old children) loved our hike here. I'd say it took more physical effort going up hills and had less sure footing than Old Man's Cave. It had many areas you'd need to stay away from the edge because of steeeep drops and what looked like soft crumbly edges. The cave was amazing and there were so many photo worthy vistas here. Well behaved dogs were enjoying it on leash, I certainly wouldn't want to take one of my dogs who pulls the leash.

We visited Rock House on a weekday morning, before anyone else was out, and it was very serene. The walk down to the cave is reasonable, not too challenging, though we almost walked past the cave entrance because we weren’t aware of what we were looking for. For context, we’re moderately active and in our early 30’s.
Definitely bring a flashlight, just in case you’re there at a time when there isn’t much natural light. We walked in, used our flashlight, and were immediately greeted by all of the pigeons. There were probably 20 or so cooing from various shelves up above or flapping around. Their cooing echoes, so it can sound kind of spooky if you aren’t ready for it. We managed to avoid getting pooped on, but there is a bit of risk for that.
Birds aside, it’s a really interesting structure. There’s plenty of space to walk around and explore.
Once others arrived, with kids who wanted to be pigeons, it got loud fast and we hiked out. There are some manageable stairs (replacing an old bridge that’s out of service) before a slightly steep dirty path back to the parking lot. That took some effort, but was manageable as well.

A bit of a challenging hike. Incredible views around every corner. The rock house was really amazing to see. There was no signage, we just happened to see a few people inside the cave. Make sure you go inside the cave. Great way to get fresh air and excercise.

We recently stayed in the Hocking Hills State Park Lodge/Conference Center. Housed in the Lodge is the Rock House an open for breakfast lunch and dinner restaurant that serves hotel and cabin guests as well as visitors staying in other places. We had breakfast twice and dinner once while staying on the property. Breakfast choices were varied, eggs were prepared well, bacon and sausage cooked to perfection. The coffee is excellent and does not taste like an "institutional" blend. We also ate dinner at the Rock House once. We were seated on the outdoor patio and our server Garrett, was a very nice guy. I had the salmon entrée and my spouse had the pork chop. Both good, ample portions and came with a selection of sides. The baked potato I had was wonderful. There is a wine selection, many of which are vinted from local wineries. All in all a great place to dine right on the premises of the Lodge!

This was one of our favorite stops in the Hocking HIlls area. Nice trail and fantastic seeing inside the "house" and looking outside thru the 'windows'. It's a 1-way trail, but after wandering inside the cave, the trail past that point was closed as the bridge had some issues. I guess you could go around it, but since it said area closed, we didn't, and took the same trail back. Great stop for all ages.

Absolutely amazing views. We had the best time even though it was a little muddy and slippery in spots

This was our first time taking this trail. It was the neatest trail we took on our trip. With all the fall colors and we went on a week day so there was not a lot of people. It was a cool experience for my daughter going in the house and seeing out the windows carved in the sandstone.

What is the best time of day for photographing rock house? (Best for lighting, shadows, etc). Thanks!
Rédigé le 11 juillet 2019
I’d recommend using a good flash with a good SLR. Otherwise, the lighting won’t really work at any time of day, although early morning would be the best bet.

Where to park and how far a hike from there to the Rock House?
Rédigé le 24 octobre 2015
There is a parking lot that is pretty big. It's not too far of a hike. Maybe 1/2 mile. Check out their website and it shows you a map and says 1/2 mi and 1/2 hr to hike it. I tried to include the website here but it won't allow it. Sorry.
