Fontana carina ma da vedere trovandosi in zona, non appositamente, magari il giorno del mercato per giustificare la passeggiata. La zona è molto trasandata e serve un poco di attenzione.

Visited on a Friday afternoon after going to Powell's City of Books. The walk over was along a bit of sketchy areas (walked along Burnside) and the fountain area itself was a little sketchy. Litter, dirty, homeless, abandoned buildings. It was ok in the day but I wouldn't recommend going at night. The fountain itself is ok--not a major destination in itself. There was a fire station just to the south that appeared to have historical fire fighting equipment inside which was interesting.
We continued on to the waterfront and walked along the path--the area seemed to get nicer the further south we went. We walked back to our car along Morrison -- much nicer street, felt much safer.
Not sure where to park specifically for this fountain. Parking in downtown Portland seems to be a nightmare. Street parking and lots are all pay 7 days a week. The cheapest lot we saw was $4/hour with most of them being $5/ hour and $14 for the day. Some stores may have lots (Powell's books has a lot, not sure if it was paid or not, it was full when we arrived).

While the fountain itself is beautiful and in close proximity to the Saturday Market, the area in general has dropped off significantly in the past 5 years. It's a shame because this is such a great area of Portland. Go during the day.

The Skidmore fountain is actually a pretty area. The old architecture that are still remaining and the fountain is self are quite beautiful. Do a little history studying before you go down so you’ll be more knowledgeable of the area. Saturday market right there lots of fun shopping and local gifts. Shop local support small

Fountain is located at the corner of Ankeny and 1st Ave in the heart of the Portland Saturday Market area. This is a great place to watch the street performers. Originally built in 1888.

This is a cool old part of Portland. The problem is that the cool old part of Portland has always been home to a seedier element, and it still holds true today. I would not let my kiddos run free here - too many needles and trash around. It's fine during the weekend markets and this is probably the only place to find quality street performers in the city.

Very interesting fountain in Portland . If not careful you would ride right by this unique site in Portland. The uniqueness of this site makes it one of those off beat spots to take in.

We had a very difficult time finding this and almost gave up. My GPS did not take me to the right place. We talked to a couple of people and a police officer on the street. Then my son used his Maps on his phone and we were able to get there with a combination of the phone and the people's directions we were able to find it. The statues on the fountain also reminded my son of the Dr. Who episode, Don't Blink! He didn't really want to hang out because they creeped him out a bit and he backed away from the fountain.

The fountain was much more interesting to look at and study after our guide shared the history. It was also interesting to learn that every metropolitan block contained public art. We started seeing art everywhere after learning this fact. I discovered the PDX public art app after leaving Portland and wish I had had it during the visit.

A beautiful scene for portland's saturday market. The grand old fountain, square and surroundings have changed little from their beginnings and the space is a wonderful place to visit for the saturday market.
