Apparently there are dozens of holy wells from medieval times all over the country and they are all named after St Anne who was the mother of virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus. This one (according to the sign) provided water and had healing properties unlike some that were cursed. It is located in Stanwell so I guess it provided locals more than just water. It is locked inside a metal door and there is no indication from outside that its an historic site except just one small hard to read sign.
Back then pilgrims used to travel to such sites to baptise their youngs and to bath/drink the holy water to heal and wash away their sins. Maybe it has served its purpose by healing everyone around before running dry.
Mineral rich natural springs are found all over the world that contain calcium, potassium, magnesium, sulphur etc. Now we have all these healing properties aka chemicals added to our water by suppliers to strengthen our belief system so the use of holy well is no longer required.

St Ann’s Well, where Stanwell got its name!
It was originally a holy well or sacred spring that was dedicated to St Anne.
The well is now represented by a small manhole and surrounded by a low wall, with a notice giving details of its history.
The well had healing properties attributed to it, and that it was in use until the 19th Century.
