We walked from the Long Point Lighthouse down to Sleepy Cove and then on to the Lower Head Trail going counter clock wise. The trail to Lower Head was steep at some points and the stairs do require some upkeep work. I would not trust the stair railings, as they appear to be very safe. It was much more difficult route than rating, but the hike to the point was definitely worth the risk. At the point, we were walking and we could hear the blowing of whales. Walking to the edge and looking down, we were greeted with a few whales below us breeching. It was the best view we had of whales during our 4 week trip on the island. The balance of the hike on the west side of the trail was relatively easy. Would advise people who wanted an easy hike to go clockwise to the point and return the same way. We ran into some people in sandals going this route, but definitely need hiking boots on the eastern half of the trail.

Went in November during the off season so everything was closed and it was cold but still decided to hike down the trail to check out the rocks and waves. Got down to the bottom and spotted 3 or 4 whales swimming back and forth along the rocks. The views were awesome and the whales made it even better. Highly suggest hiking down the trail.

Not to be missed. 45 minutes with great cliff views. Fun visiting the titanic museum and climbing the lighthouse after the hike

There were parts of this hike we really took our time. It was very worthwhile with great views. We were lucky during on 5 day stay in Twillingate we only had rain once with nice weather. A number of the trails we did we probably would not have gone with lots of rain. As mentioned, there are steep sections along this trail.

Park at the lighthouse, and after viewing the great vista of Notre Dame Bay (there is a viewing platform with telescopes) head left for a hike on a relatively easy trail. We visited the area in September so viewing icebergs and whales was not a possibility – we will just have to return!

Although we didn’t see any icebergs, we stopped frequently to nibble on blueberries, since the trails went through some fine berry patches.

The trail does a large figure eight which you can see from the top of the trail and immediately descends via well maintained stairs to more level terrain. We then follow the trail north to the cliff edge before heading towards Sleepy Cove and Lower Cove.

It passes by old machinery used in a copper mine which operated from 1910-20 and then goes inland toward Lower Cove. Then the trail winds back along the coast, providing spectacular vistas of the community of Crow Head and the Gunn Islands. This loop is about five km and, again, due to the amount of up and down you should allow at least two hours.

Largely an easy trail – a few moderate parts.

Fantastic viewing including trips up to the inside of the lighthoue and the story of the Titanic. If you are lucky enough to see a pod of whales frolicking below its a fantastic sight. Watch fishermen working in their boats in the waters below the lighthouse. Close by is the fudge and gift shop. A must visit when in Twillingate.

My hubby and I hiked this trail with our 14 month old in a back pack. There were some steep sections but they had stairs. The paths along the escarpments were breathtaking. Around sleepy cove the trails are not well marked but they all basically lead to the same place. Taking the trail to Nanny's Hole is a must. Very beautiful. We travelled in Sep so we didn't see whales or icebergs but otherwise the hike was spectacular.

Like many other communities in Newfoundland, this trail offers a robust workout with some steep sections that are made comfortable by well-maintained wooden steps and support rails. The trail offers stunning sea views and elf-like forest segments, and a nice view out over the bay at the end, before a nice flattish return loop
