This is my 3rd time in Masungi but for my groupmates most of them are first timers. We enjoyed a lot. Its a bit physically challenging but its worth it. We reconnected with nature and we now knew what Masungi is all about.

Nine of us spent four hours exploring the Discovery Trail of this karst reserve less than two hours’ drive from Metro Manila. The trail is designed to challenge reasonably fit groups who don’t mind some exposure to the elements and surmounting physical obstacles without incurring serious risks.
A certified guide accompanied us all the way. Aside from the uneven terrain, there were hanging bridges, caves, meshed rope walls, and a giant spider web suspended over a jagged ravine to get the adrenaline pumping.
Entry is regulated to groups (minimum of seven, maximum of fourteen) with prior online bookings. Price ₱1,500.00 weekdays and ₱1,800 weekends.
The surrounding region (Tanay/Baras) is elevated with scenic vistas of clouds and forested hills. Its zigzag highway has become the favorite of weekend bikers so dining and accommodations abound.

An absolutely incredible experience and well worth the price. A reasonable distance for a day trip away from the city. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and it’s evident that they care for the environment. I participated in the discovery trail, which I believe to be the most challenging. It took about 3 hours and my heart was racing the entire time. Great exercise, great views, and a once in a lifetime experience if you’re traveling through the area. Our Ranger, Sarah, was patient and explained the trail options which helped me to prepare myself for the challenging course ahead. A must-visit for adrenaline seekers, but know that there are family friendly options, too. Everything from the restroom facilities to the post-trail snack were notable, tidy, and impressive. 10/10 would recommend!! Beautiful nature and interesting history. Please consider a small donation at the end of the trail if you enjoy your experience.

We did the discovery trail and the experience was more than what I had expeted. The obstacles laid upon were not for the weak but very much enjoyable even for those who might think they cant do it. The trail was very much carefully laid out and over-all experience was both phenomenal and very educational.
I really hope the georeserve can sustain what it is doing. It does need more help from the community to help it keep its current state of being that - a reserve/sanctuary for more trees and plants to grow and for whatever wildlife to keep its habitat in Masungi.
I hope to visit again soon and hopefully experience Nanay as my group opted not to do it.
The staff and our tourguide are very friendly, helpful and courteous.
Overall, I would recommend this for teams and families and group of friends to explore together. The photos may just look like it extreme but trustme when when you are there, it really is nature at its core with carefully laid-out and safe path to go thru.
PS> the frozen towel at the end was a really welcome and thoughtful touch to the whole adventure.
Thanks Masungi Georeserve!

The Masungi Discovery Trail was an amazing, guided experience for beginner-intermediate hikers who are not deathly afraid of heights. My teenagers loved it as did my cousin and her friend who are not hikers (this was only their 2nd hike ever) but they are in shape. The website says it's fine for beginners- our guide said an 80+ year old even went on her tour, but l'm here to tell you, if you are an absolute beginner hiker, you need to meet these criteria:
1) NOT DEATHLY AFRAID OF HEIGHTS:
There are quite a few rope nets that you climb down (one you climb up), from certain heights. I'm not sure how high, but it's just best that you don't look down. They say no one has ever fallen to their deaths. But sometimes, your foot gets stuck in a rope net step (I don't know what you call it), and that's unnerving. Also, wear shoes that are firmly attached to your feet so you don't lose it in the rope net. My 15 year old quickly bounded up and down these nets because he is a monkey. I did not die, so that's good.
2) CAN TAKE THE HEAT:
There are quite a few tours that leave at like 6, 7 am. We did an 8 am tour. There's a reason why these tours start early. It's a 4 hour hike. As the day goes on, it gets pretty hot and humid. Bring your water bottle and stay hydrated. There's a refill station at the beginning, but that's pretty much it. Keep in mind this is about 1.5 - 2 hours from Manila so plan your drive.
3) CAN DO STEPS:
Lots and lots and lots of steps. Up and down. Uneven heights. Your calves will feel it the next day.
4) CAN DUCK WHEN NEEDED:
The reason why we have to wear helmets is because there's quite a few tree branches and caves along the path that need navigating under and around. I am a petite human and even I was grateful for the head protection, having grazed my head into a cave ceiling one or two times.
5) ARE PHYSICALLY IN SHAPE:
Only you know your body's limitations and if you don't think you can walk 4 hours through the humid jungle, then maybe not for you. Don't let the time scare you, it goes by pretty fast, because of the different stops (attractions), plenty of breaks, and it's fun. At the end, you get a tasty snack with a refreshing, frozen face towel.
6) ENJOY A LITTLE ADVENTURE AND A GORGEOUS NATURE VIEW:
At times, with the heights and ropes, it's a little bit scary, but not too much. Just enough to make you feel like you did something worthwhile for the day.
I super highly recommend this tour! Mind you, you need a minimum of 7 people in your group. If you have less, you still pay for 7, but the money goes toward the preservation of this amazing georeserve. It is a very special jewel and very much needed for the local economy. Bring some pesos for the donation box and tip, it is worth it!
PS - there's some great YouTube videos about the Discovery Trail that we watched before that were spot on if you wanted to know what to expect.

Dear thejoyciecat,
Thank you for visiting our beloved georeserve and giving us your valuable feedback!
We appreciate your detailed insights of your experience in our Discovery Trail.
Yes, our trails are beginner friendly, however, the internal assessment of the group/ individual is still advised. Similarly, alternate routes are available should the rope course be of higher challenge to the guest.
Moreover, guest safety and well-being are always on top of our minds along with the vision of a well-sustained and flourishing environment.
We truly appreciate your support and we hope to welcome you back in the trails soon!

Masungi Georeserve is indeed one of the best places in Rizal that I personally would like to recommend for you to visit. It was such a relaxing place, with its majestic view and good food. People are very welcoming and yeah, I really enjoyed the whole discovery trail. What makes this place special is their advocacy to conserve the forest land and being the voice of the wildlife. Will surely go back. 🤗

The visit was not only a delightful experience but also an educational one, offering insights into local ecology and conservation efforts. We were blessed with perfect weather – sunny yet pleasantly cool and breezy, a characteristic that apparently intensifies from February to April.
Lunch was a culinary highlight, with delicious meals served in traditional Filipino style, wrapped in banana leaves. Choices included fish, chicken, or tofu, catering to all tastes.
Tree planting and nurturing was such a fun and rustic activity—everyone enjoyed getting their hands dirty. The facilities were impressive too, notably the beautifully designed and impeccably clean outdoor restrooms.
A unique feature was the complimentary local meal, known as “minalot”, served post-restoration activities, adding to the authentic experience.
The opportunity for a siesta in the serene Amihan Floating Huts was a delightful touch. We will definitely be back to try the other trails!

Perfect day at Masungi Georeserve. The hike was well-organised and well-paced with sufficient rest stops. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, allowing us to take our time and helping to take our photos. You do need a certain level of fitness and daring to tackle the ropes, steps and hanging bridges but you will be rewarded with stunning views of the limestone karst formations. There are alternative paths to take for those who have a fear of heights but these detours may take longer. Best not to rush and go with people who won’t judge you if you feel like dropping out! Well done to the Foundation and for educating the public on biodiversity and sustainable tourism. Book ahead and pray for great weather.

Hi! In our group, I'm the oldest (73), the Mom, and I won't join the trek (3-4 hours). Where can I stay and wait for my children? We still have other places to go after their Maungi Georeserve trek. Thanks!

If, no, online booking lang po sila. And I think it needs about 3-5 working days to really confirm the reservation. But they are really very helpful in helping you with the reservations and payments. For us kasi about a week before it was confirmed due to holidays and events nila.
Hope this stil helped you.

Masungi does offer "shared trails" but you'd have to contact them for availability. Or you can book through Tanlines Philippines for a Masungi visit that includes a ride going there and back every Friday.
Rédigé le 17 juillet 2018
I am not quite sure but I think that if ever you bring along kids, you can't participate in the rope activities since these are kinda dangerous with kids around. They have a different pathway for those who can't complete the activities so I guess you could tag along the kids and walk through the walkway / pathway. But I strongly suggest to not bring little kids in Masungi for safety purposes.
