Via Hwy 14 at Red Hollow - it is a beautiful hike back up to Thor's Hideout. Pictures to take, depending on time of year, are spectacular. Only caution, take a weapon with you as we have spotted mountain lion and bobcat footprints that were fairly fresh. Also, in warmer weather you need to pay close attention for snakes on the trail. It is their territory after all and we are just visiting. Sad part is the moron factor who go back there and think that tagging the rocks is necessary. Keep your selves and your spray paints in your State and if you are from Utah, go home and stay home. Destroy your own homes, not the pristine beauty of our Utah trails.

Usually when you go for a hike, you have time to ease into it especially for the first half mile or so. Not on this hike. If you park at the Red Hollow trailhead off of the SR 14, you will quickly ascend quite a bit in just about 3/4 mile until you reach the fence and link to the Thor’s Hideout trail. After that point, the trail is a lot kinder. The entire hike is just under 3 1/2 miles, but you and your legs will earn their keep!

The people who have been working to make this trail have done an awesome job. Sometimes it's called the Red Hill Trail, but from the north, it's easier to find listed as Thor's Hideout. Both ways I've accessed it have been from the south, just out of Cedar City on the left from Route 14 East.

There is a small parking area on the north side of the highway, and a larger parking area on the south side. The trail crosses a small stream bed that is sandy. It begins to climb almost immediately and continues to climb until the high point, about 2 km [1.5 miles] in. At that point, There is a sign and a choice of trail to the right or to the left. Your choice.

The trail is moderate, with some sections steeper than others. A nice variety of desert scenery is in the immediate area. Views to the south of north facing tree covered mountains add to the variety.

Cycling the trail is really fun in that you can leave from anywhere in town and be able to do a loop to your starting place. From the Thor's Hideout trailhead, a dirt road leads back to North Main Street and you can follow that back to the trail head in Route 14 east. The trail is not super technical, but is enjoyable to moderate riders.
