My husband wanted to visit this sweater shop since reading about it online under a Reddit article for Iceland. My son purchased a beautiful sweater from here. The craftsmanship and quality are fantastic. As other readers have said the owner was sitting and knitting when we walked in. She was so sweet and kind. I know my son will be staying warm and stylish in this authentically made Icelandic sweater for many years to come.

Great place to buy authentic wool products (especially sweaters). Each sweater is labeled with a number linking it to the person who knitted it. Plenty of choices also for small people (XS/S).

Like most people I wanted to get a traditional Icelandic sweater while visiting Iceland. Litla Lopasjoppan was early on our drive around the country- its about an hour drive outside of Reykjavik on the Ring Road. After spending time in the store I found 2 sweaters I loved and felt great wearing. Each sweater is hand knit so trying them on and finding one that fits you- is a big part of the sweater. I almost left without a sweater knowing I had lots more stops along the way...I am so glad I bought the one I did. And if I ever get back I am stopping again and getting another sweater.

Gezien al de goede reviews wilden we hier even binnenspringen en eventueel een trui kopen. Volgens Trip Adviser is de winkel van 12 tot 17h open. We kwamen iets na 16h toe en stonden voor een gesloten deur. Niemand te bekennen en nergens werd aangegeven wanneer de winkel wel open zou zijn. Een ontgoocheling.

I am very sorry that you came and nobody was here. This is very rare but happens, I probably would have been at home sick and not able to come and put a note in the window as I usually do if I can't for some reason come to the shop. I hope you found another shop with sweaters.

One of the best decisions we made while in Iceland was to stop by Litla Lopasjoppan on our way back to Reykjavik. As we walked in, we were met by the owner knitting on a couch. When you buy here, you know you are buying from amazing Icelandic women with a tradition of knitting Icelandic wool. Taking a right turn off of Hringvegur took us to a great store with authentic and locally sourced wool products that our family will cherish forever.

We wanted gifts that were from local folks. Handmade in the area. The shop was well stocked. There was a variety of items for sale. We purchased two pair of footwear. Slip on footies. Great gift items.

Saw this store while driving past and since I was on a mission for a hand knitted Iceland sweater decided to stop- so glad we did! Was a Sunday and store was closed but she opened up just for us and was so happy to find a great selection of gorgeous sweaters. Worth the trip!

We stayed in Hella for our 4 night stay in Iceland. On the first day we toured the Golden Circle and looked at several Icelandic sweaters in the tourist shops. The cost was high, the product wasn't always handmade in Iceland, and didn't fit well. On day two we were just coming back from a day in the city and decided to look for a grocery store in Hella. As we are driving my husband points out this little shop that looks like it may only sell wool for people to knit with but we stop anyway. Boy am I glad we did. The shopkeeper was sitting there making a sweater and the store had lots of beautiful handmade sweaters, shawls, ornaments, scarves, etc. My husband and I tried on sweater after sweater while our friend talked to the shopkeeper who was knowledgeable about Iceland and the sweaters themselves. I bought a beautiful traditional handmade Icelandic wool sweater that fit me perfectly and for less than the tourist trap places. It's one of those purchases that you will not regret. I wore the sweater my last 2 days in Iceland and it kept me nice and warm. If you will be anywhere near Hella this is the one stop you need to make!!

We spent a lot of time mulling over buying Icelandic knitwear, but the cost is quite considerable and left us umming and ahhing.
We saw the sign when driving back from a day trip and decided to stop for a look. I'm SO glad we did. There are lots of traditional Icelandic jumpers to choose from, as well as lots of other knitwear made from Icelandic wool, including shawls, cardigans, hats, scarves and gloves. Quite a bit cheaper than some other establishments we visited, and the quality was amazing. I bought a cardigan/shawl for 21675IKR ( less than i expected to pay) and it's one of the warmest clothing items I own!
There is so much to choose from and the lady running the shop was happy to let me try on a few things and demonstrated how to pin the shawl correctly.
A very satisfied customer, definitely worth a stop if you are driving out that way!

Stopped here while getting gas in Hella and was simply amazed at the quality and volume of beautiful wool clothing. The shopkeeper was actually knitting when we came in and explained the back story on many of the pieces in the shop. Unlike some of the other stores in Iceland where they source the sweaters, etc. and then resell them in a fancy setting, this was a simple, authentic experience where you can learn about the individuals behind each piece - some of whom might actually be sitting in the shop itself. One of the ladies who makes the sweaters still dyes all her wool herself - gives you an idea of what to expect here. Lastly - its truly a local business where your purchase goes directly to those that made the product, not spread across tour buses and gift shops.
