This is the place where you will find all the Martin Luther King Jr historic sites. You can ride the Atlanta Streetcar for $1. You can explore the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, they have some really delicious food! This is an African American neighborhood with lots of history closely associated with the Civil Rights Movement.

This street is historic. It's the street that leads from Peachtree Street to the Martin Luther King Jr National Historic Site. Not a single policeman present on the whole journey. A lot of insecurity, homeless, drug addicts and people asking for money. The truth is that it is a lot worse than NY, and that says a lot. One of the worst cities in the US, and I’ve been to a few.

I worked in the area for over 3 1/2 months and enjoyed it very much. I am new to the greater Atlanta area, so I feel I have really learned something about the "real" Atlanta. I hope you will make it a part of your travels.

The streetcar makes a loop around the area and it's also a robust walk from Downtown. I had only planned on visiting MLK Jr.'s home but discovering the rich past of Auburn Avenue made for a longer stop. Sweet Auburn is in need of extra care but well worth the trip.
Start from MLK Jr.'s birthplace, towards Fire Station#6, King Center and burial site, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Royal Peacock Club, S.C.L.C. building, Big Bethel AME Church, APEX Museum, ++. There are eye-catching murals as well.

This is where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. grew up. You can still see his house and his church and some stores. It is a beautifully kept area, and there are many stops to make as you walk along and soak in the history. Take the street car and stay for a while.

After you visit the King Center and the National Historic Site, then it's great to tour the Sweet Auburn neighborhood where you can still get a feel of the place where Dr. King lived and worked. His house, the Ebenezer Baptist Church, the textile mill shotgun houses he would seen, the firehouse (first in Atlanta with African Americas), and further down, the clubs, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference building, churches. Enjoyed seeing what he might have seen and heard and felt. Great place to understand history.

We visited here on our bicycle tour. The street art is interesting. Small area adjacent to MLK historic district. This was the one area where we experienced a highly verbal (obscene) man shouting down the street. I am not sure I would spend much time in this area if not with a group.

Did a tour of the center city venues. This was just another, don't see what all the hype is. Not impressed.

Good BBQ, we went there for a late lunch. We were excited by the word of mouth reviews and that it was a littlt bit of Auburn in Atlanta!! We had a large party and with call ahead seating. If you want a great place to eat for BBQ this is it.
Please note: that parking is a *****.
If you park in the wrong area you will be booted [this is a weapon that the Plaza up the street uses to make money ]!
