This little museum is chockfull of local history. The upper floor has displays of daily items used by islanders in the past (including a smashing collection of mustache cups), lots of great photographs, and a genealogy room. Downstairs houses exhibits for fishing, blacksmithing, house moving (as in, jacking up and rolling an entire house to a new location), The sweet docent was so kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here!

This beautiful little museum is nestled in the town of Alberton and is full of history and wonderful artifacts. We had an extensive guided tour by a very friendly and knowledgeable lady (whose name escapes me!) and learned so much about this area of PEI and its history.

I had gone there a few years ago in search of some family history, and decided to go back in September with my sister. The manager, Arlene Morrison, is a friendly and charming lady, and an absolute wiz at PEI genealogy. We cannot say enough about the museum and Arlene. Her welcome was extraordinary! A must see for visitors visiting Western PEI!

First thing you notice is the beautiful building that this museum is housed in. The displays are extremely well done for a local museum. I thoroughly enjoyed my self guided tour about the history of Alberton of which my great grandfather was a part of.
Looking forward to visiting again when I return to PEI.

Now this little museum (entry free but you can donate to its upkeep) is jam-packed with artifacts and represents very well what life on Prince Edward Island was like. The curator has done an excellent job of grouping the different aspects of Islanders' ways of life. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Right next door to Chez Cartier, so you can enjoy both places without moving too far.
Situated in the old Court House, this is a collection of local history and industry.
A well presented selection of themed displays covering domestic, artisan and maritime history of the area.
Exhibits are clearly and informatively presented, mainly the domestic stuff upstairs.
Down in the basement, which was the old town gaol, there are recostructed cobblers, blacksmiths and carpenters workshops.
If you are into the family history of the area, this is the place to visit as they have a genealogy centre too.
A good one for a rainy morning with lunch next door to follow.
