Initially I was so scared the dummies looked like cadaver like seriously I almost passed out I was then made to understand that it was just a model and the sounds I mean the music in the background was something else I couldn't wait to get out of the museum. If ur in Calabar you really need to visit this place I wasn't allowed to snap.

The museum was informative and well kept. I didn’t like the hassling from the museum guides. I would have had a better experience if I toured it myself.

Historically factual re-enactments of the slavery period as well as a compelling compendium of Nigerian art history. The souvenirs are affordable and of good quality too.

The museum houses the torture relics dating years of tears and blood which originates from the trance Atlantic slave trade. Good story and in-depth knowledge of the guide

I left the museum with a clearer picture of what we suffered in the hands of those colonial 'monsters'! The Museum, brings to life the dark and bitter history of slave trading and man's inhumanity to man. Although morbid, i was better educated and quite glad i went. The tour starts with an eighteen minutes clip from the movie 'Amazing Grace', then each segment follows clear accounts of the events, pictures, maps, events being described.
Your first instinct would be to pull out your phone and just snap away...but photographs aren't allowed in the museum. You may want to wear comfy shoes as its quite a journey - an interesting one though!

This has got to be one of the best slave museums I have visited. The art here literally comes to life. They have been able to recreate dummies that look real and they also attached voice-overs for each section.
The tour guides are passionate and knowledgeable. There is an entrance fee of not more than 500 Naira. It is a must visit if you are in Calabar.

In a way a reality check. On the historical timeline slavery didn't happen that long ago. We had a great narrator who accompanied us through the museum. Apart from the shocking revelations about slavery, there were also some interesting areological artefacts from around Nigeria on display. This is a must see in Calabar, and it is always important to be reminded of the barbaric acts humanity is capable of.

When you get here, you know you have really gotten to the point of no return. The road to this place is a rough and narrow way. The escort showed us the first building, police station, first quarters, school etc.. Then you get to a space with very big chains mounted to demonstrate the chains on the necks of the slaves.
Then you enter a dark room where a film of the slave trade is shown, after which you are taken from stage to stage of slave trade to the time of freedom after many struggles. You finally come out to behold the river and the old boats/ships.
This is history made real.
If you love history you will love this place. I recommend that we all go there and see what slave trade really was like.

I would like to know how much it would cost to get a public speaker to come to a museum in the United States, and speak about slavery from past and present regarding their culture.

When you say a public speaker, are you referring to an academic or an experience social commentator/ tour guide and historian?
This is something I have been doing for over 5 years as a tour guide. There are no fixed cost all depends on your offer. So how much can you afford to give and the terms?
