My visit to Lake Abraham was truly memorable. It’s a perfect getaway for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking tranquility and natural beauty. I can’t wait to return!

Stopped for a rest on our drive from the Icefields to Sylvan Lake. Stunning bright blue water with the sun hitting it, amazing scenery!

Apparently this is the famous Lake in Alberta that has frozen methane bubbles in winter - it wasn't frozen when we arrived which was a bit disappointing given that everywhere else we went was frozen solid. Lovely peaceful lake, worth a look if you're in the area. Better in winter I'd imagine.

It's not as busy as Banff National Park, most of the people here are locals! The Bubble Lake in winter is great. I used to come here more in winter, but I came here last year and found that autumn is more beautiful.

Ice Bubbles: what an superb experience it was to visit Abraham Lake in winter to see the ice bubbles. We visited in January which is probable the perfect time a year. Methane gas from vegetation gets caught in ice of the freezing Rocky Mountain lake and create stunning patterns. Tip: drive along the lake until a ways after the first rock crop out, park along the road and walk a short distance to the lake. there are other places that show the bubbles, but this is the best stop. a few hundred yards further are official outhouses and before the lake, at the hamlet of Nordegg, are gas stations and convenience store. Wear cleats as the first part to the bubbles is ice on a slant on top of gravel, its hard to walk back up. Dress warm, its always windy, which is handy so the snow gets blown away and doesn't cover up the bubbles

Our first time on highway 11, we were so excited to see Abraham Lake. It was beyond our expectations. Thankfully we had as much time as we wanted and stopped whenever there was a spot to pull over. As it became windy in the afternoon the lake changed colour. Also it was wonderful to have such a beautiful lake without being crowded with people like Jasper and Banff.

A gorgeous turquois coloured lake in the Alberta Rocky Mountains. So many hiking possibilities and sightseeing. Also several campgrounds in the area as well as random camping (buy you online permit for random camping / boondocking)

this was a wonderful off grid camping stop close to Allstones creek there are many places off the road on this part of the David thompson highway to off grid camp that means no picnic tables, no firewood, no garbage or bathroom facilities. It was stunning and we kayaked this lake along the shore as it is massive and winds came up quickly so not safe to venture further on the lake and definitely not close to the dam where there are dangerous whirl spots close. The camping up on the ridge could be dangerous is you are travelling with kids no guardrails and a very deep lake that gets deep quick
what sucked about off grid camping here and along the Alberta Forestry Trunk road 734 north and south of Nordegg sask is PEOPLE so disrespectful ruining it for others such as leaving large bags of trash behind for animals to get into and make a giant mess. You cant venture off the path too far as there is human waste and toilet paper absolutely EVERYWHERE. Lots of damage to trees from people axing them so much trash left around its is disgusting. Another pet peeve is the people that come to off grid camping where there are no regulations and run their loud generators all day and night to operate their large houses on wheels with ABSOLUTELY NO RESPECT for others who would like the peace and quiet of nature especially at 11 pm and later and early morning hours. REALLY !!. So if you are going to off grid camp here please be prepared to bring your own firewood instead of hacking live trees up, pack you garbage in an out and bring a shovel to bury your human crap or pail toilet and do your business there instead of polluting the bush and by the way just because there is an abandoned outhouse is it necessary to continue going in it even with toilet paper all the way to the top of the lid and overflowing? who ever does check this area should be locking or boarding up outhouses that are no longer being serviced or people will just be stupid and keep going in them

Paar dagen op de camping, bij winkeltje. Mooie plek, aan de rand van het bos. Op loopafstand van Abraham lake. Eerste beer gezien en vooral ook gehoord, rond onze tent. Tijd staat stil hier. Al 40 jaar of zo. Ons beviel het goed voor een paar dagen.

Beautiful turquoise waters with 53 kms of lake/river waters.
Beautiful camping spots by the water.
Amazing viewpoints.
Love the drive from Edmonton.
Only about 3 hours away.
We saw people swimming but we do not go in those waters as I heard about the Methane gas.

We plan to visit in February to see the frozen lake. We are driving from Calgary . Is there a town close by to grab lunch ?

HOW were the roads at this time? I will be coming from 100 mile house via Jasper. Thank you.

The is not much snow around the lake and the roads were dry and bare. However. The road from Jasper to Sask. River Crossing is often snowy, but they keep it well ploughed. No idea how the roads are farther west, #5 or the Yellowhead. Check DriveBC website.

Hi there, was the lake already frozen and were you able to see the frozen bubbles? Thx!

I was there in the summer, but in the winter you can see the bubbles.
