Excellent collection of memorabilia from past years in South Africa. We loved seeing the old tin display and the many letters from dags gone by.

Enjoyed the ambiance and the nostalgia in the museum. The food was good & wholesome. A must visit for all to reflect on the Pieter Dirk Uys career, being a thorn in the side of the Nationalist Party. Pleasant setting and the staff were very friendly.

I suspected, on this, our first visit, that there will already be dozens of reviews, but the experience was so special that it has forced my hand. We discovered, at Evita's Perron in Darling, this thank you note to Pieter, the founder, now residing in that town, from Piet Koornhof (the one who wore the T-shirt with the slogan “Too sexy for my volk”). And sommer a picture of an early edition of the publication people in the Western Cape always call “Die Koerant”. If you are an insider, you will know that the phrase has capital letters, the second of which is a ‘B’. In the museum, an advertisement for De Burger thus claims to ensure that readers “niet langer eenzijdig zult werden ingelicht”. Reassuring readers further that no expense will be spared, since Reuters will also be involved, it encourages them to support such effort by putting down 1d. Those were the days. At least it brought an end to one-sidedness, as we can now see.

On the same platform ('perron') in Darling there was also a hint that if President Paul Kruger could mask up, so can you. The other six nationalist premiers (and a
president) of the union and erstwhile republic featured in the museum had masks
too, but one supposes this was to hide their shame at the evidence surrounding
them more than for reasons of medical hygiene.

If you are not acquainted (or comfortable) with the infamy of apartheid, you will be at a loss, or in discomfort. In a word, as I see one reviewer put it, it will not be your "cup of tea", though the cheesecake is good, the coffee too, and the service is super friendly.

There is an Afrikaans ditty about a chicken that is unable to lay an egg (spoiler alert: it is the rooster on the weather vane on top of the church). On the tin roof of the perron museum you find tin pumpkins. Like the iron rooster, there is little chance of joy here: no chance that fritters will emerge from them.

This little museum and shop is definitely something to do for an hour if in Darling. Definitely one of the top 3 things to do in this tiny town.
Great attention to detail with all the memorabilia that have been collected and is on display.
The book shop has a surprisingly good little array of choices.
The coffees and snacks I noticed being served looked fresh and worth ordering.

We did not eat at the restaurant but the rest was just not our kind of thing, the museum and bookshop plus outdoor area were more than a little flat for us.

Our visit to Tannie Evita was unplanned but what a great experience. The staff are so welcoming and accommodating- we arrived at 4pm and they close at 4.30pm 😳 Inspite of the tight timing they were so hospitable and engaging. We had the most delicious carrot cake, peppermint tart and of course those world famous koeksisters.

COVID regulations are in place and well exercised.

In passing through Darling we just stopped at the Perron out of curiosity and what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. Wasn't show time but to stroll through the hordes of South African memorabilia of yesteryear was just awesome. Don't miss it if you ever are in the Darling vicinity.

There is so much to see with so much history. Evita's show was highly entertaining - such a intelligent, witty & knowledgeable person. It was a privilege to have experienced this.

There is plenty of memorobelia dating by to the aparheids era that is very interesting though may be upsetting for some people. Food good, service was a bit slow.

We stopped at the perron on our way to Yzerfontein and was lucky enough to caught a show with 'Tannie Evita' ... what a great spoil. We enjoyed drinks but did not want to eat as we were pressed for time. There are a number of nice things to do, even fun photo opportunities ... make the stop if you have a chance!!
