I have just discovered that I have an extended family that I had no idea existed until 3 months ago. So after researching online I find that I have 3 sisters and a brother living in and around the area of Fishgaurd. So only 2 weeks of breaking the news to my recently aquired family it was a case of how quick could we get to meet up and as the bank holiday weekend fast approached it seemed we had possibly picked the wrong time to try and find accomodation in the area. And following our long trip down from Anglesey, we needed somewhere to kick of our shoes a relax before meeting everyone. Neither Ella or myself had any luck trying to find anywhere when one of my sister suggested this place that they thought had been recently taken over and refurbished. So a quick call the host (Paula) and we were in. Not knowing what to expect as we crossed the road from the free public car park across the road a mere stones throw away from the Beach House with our suitcase and bags, Now there is a very steep incline / driveway to the property which may not suit people with walking difficulties, however you can drive down, we just chose to park across the street. On arrival at the bottom of the drive we were greeted with a stunning view of the harbour and the hill of Fishguard opposite. Paula greeted us at the door and was quick to offer refreshments after our long drive, We didn't go in straight away just sat at a table on the decking / porch admiring the views whist drinking coffee. Following that we were shown to our room which was just at the top of the stairs. It housed a lovely double bed which beautifully covered with modern satin scatter cushions and a crisp white duvet. This was a family room as it also had a bunk bed opposite and enough room for a cot if that was required. Either side of the bed were bedside cabinets with goirgeous lamps on top. There was a large built in wardrobe to store clothes and suitcases. Tea and Coffee making facilities and hot chocolate if you so wished. There was a door to the en-suite shower room and toilet with a full range of shampoos etc. The window was large and looked out across the harbour and gave the room and overall light and airey feel. I know the guest house doesn't have en-suites throughout, but the bathroom and toilets were all decorated to a very high standard. I particually like the inscription / picture in the toilet at the top of the stairs about "Love" very nice We only stayed the one night and the night we stayed we arrived back late. On our arrival back after meeting up with my family (which was really nice) Paula shot down her private part of the house to check to see if we had had a lovely evening and to see if we needed anything before bed. (Nice touch) We went to our room had a great nights sleep waking a little later than anticipated but not too late for breakfast. Phew ! I had worried, but Sohan (Paula's husband) was on hand to insure breakfast went according to plan. There was the obligatory Tea, Coffe and toast in abundance followed closely by a selection of cereals and a full welsh breakfast. Excellent. Across the hall from the Breakfast room is a Lounge sitting room with a couple of large settes and TV, books, magazines etc. This was perfect as I had invited the family over after breakfast and we able to have a coffee and a final chat before saying our goodbyes and heading back northwards. Now I can say this Guest House is very clean and delightfully decorated. The food is very plentiful and tasty, but most of all the hosts are so accomodating and make you feel at home and relaxed, nothing seemed a problem. This might not be everyones cup of tea, but it was ours. One down side is there was no TV in your room, but I can say we never missed it anyway there was plenty to keep us occupied. There is however free wi-fi both in the guest house and as you are close enough to the ferry terminal you can jump on their free wi-fi too. Look don't take my word for it, try it for yourself...... If you are visitng friends or Long Lost Family like me or even hot footing it on the ferry to Ireland then this is the place to rest your feet and relax before continuing your journey. A big thank you to Paula and Sohan for making our short stay a very warm and welcoming one ! All the best to you both in this venture, we will be back again put the kettle on !!!!
