When I booked my reservation there was only one review, from the pleasant UMass Alum who enjoyed his/her stay. I jumped right in.
When I arrived, the common room was busy with the manager and a woman draped across an armchair nursing a deep pour of amber liquid. There was a large stuffed bobcat over the fireplace, which would have been sufficiently unusual for me. But as I walked to the counter, a guy blustered in looking like he had just taken a beating from a pro - I imagine his teeth were gone before the knock down. The manager hustled him out and around back.
I later found out the 'furnished apartments' noted on the sign are welfare housing. No disrespect, everyone has to be somewhere, but as a female staying alone I wished I'd known this wasn't a traditional family lodging.
Honestly, I was kind of horrified by the room, which in fairness the owner had taken time to clean, the sheets were clearly freshly laundered. I was overjoyed I did not wake up scratching. But the room is like every movie you have ever seen where the deranged suspect is holed up in a dingy roadside hideaway where the lighting never really illuminates the corners. Every piece of décor seemed chosen to hide dirt, which after 30 years makes the room look dirty. The bed could easily have been simply a pile of refrigerator cartons piled together with sheets over them. I could hardly walk the next morning. There were stains with a long history on the bedding and carpet. I don't know what they were, but the unpleasant possibilities haunted my dreams.
In short, if you are accustomed to the Motel 6, you are the type of guest who can be counted upon the class this joint up. The owners were quite nice and it was a bargain, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is beyond wanting a funny story to tell from spring break.
My only regret is that I didn't get a pic of that bobcat.

Owner very nice going out of her way to help us get to Walmart room clean. Peaceful. Downside was the deplorable beds- they were obviously very old and extremely uncomfortable. They were sunk in middle and broken. They supposedly had no other room.

I booked this room because I was staying in Amherst longer than just the reunion weekend. I remembered seeing this place years ago and tried it, as the price was certainly right (under $80 during a peak period). They had orange juice and coffee. They helped me out with the TV reception and told me where to catch PVTA bus rides into Amherst Center and the other towns (the busses are still free). The room was clean and the air conditioning worked perfectly. They called a taxi for me at the end of the trip.
