The location of the hotel is actually very nice. Located in the mountains at a big lake, the surroundings invite you to take walks in the nature. The view from the rooms of the surrounding mountains is also very scenic. However, the location also has a disadvantage. The city center of Guangzhou is an hour away by car. There are no shops or supermarkets in the surrounding area where you can buy anything. Without a car, you are more or less lost here. Or you have to call a taxi every time.
The hotel does have a restaurant in the 3rd floor, but it also has a limited selection of food. The rest of the facilities, such as the Music Bar, which the hotel advertises, are closed. The breakfast is international and so far edible. There is a rich selection of international as well as local dishes. The staff in the breakfast restaurant is friendly and helpful. On the other hand, the staff at the reception is a disaster. The ladies and gentlemen at the reception are not able to speak English. They try to help, but they don't understand you. Even an English-speaking lady couldn't help with her poor English.
The rooms are so far clean and equipped with everything you need. Everything else is available in a bag at the reception, such as shower gel, toothbrush, etc. The problem of this hotel is the manager. He had ordered that the air conditioning system may only be set to "warm" from an outside temperature of less than 10 degrees. We were in Guangzhou in December and it felt very cold with 11 degrees. And the rooms were also cold as there was no air conditioning. When asked, we were told that this was ordered by the manager. Incredibly, does a 5-star hotel care so much about the well-being of its guests? That's a no-go for a hotel of this category.
In addition, there are rooms with lake view and mountain view. Again, there is a price difference of 200 RMB. When asked why the rooms with lake view are more expensive, they could not give us an answer. Also, the rooms near the elevator are 100 RMB more expensive. No one could explain to us why. In our view, the service staff is overloaded with their tasks. Mostly young people who don't seem to have much experience in the hotel industry.
All in all, we can say that this hotel does not deserve 5 stars under these conditions. Someone should make it clear to the hotel manager that guests have to feel comfortable in order to possibly come back. The fact that the hotel is so poorly visited, according to our impression, is certainly also due to the poor to inadequate management. For guests without great demands, who just want to hike a bit along the lake, this is certainly a good solution. For all others with somewhat higher demands on a 5 star hotel, this is not an alternative. Better look for another hotel.

I would not have chosen this hotel if not because of the location of my conference. That’s somewhat remote and that’s the good reason to keep (almost) all participants to stay at the convention center. Still, I have chance to enjoy the walking and jogging trail around the water reservoir during lunch and the first thing in the morning. Beautiful scenery.

The check in was fast and smooth. The breakfast buffet has a wide spread of international food which was great for me. I loved their freshly made Zhu Zhang Fei. The bedroom scenery is towards the lakeside which gives a calm feeling. I loved the bedroom decoration and the softness of bed with the choice of pillow. It also have recreation room that is perfect for children to play in.
