Sat around fire and drank cinnamon tea. Eventually dinner was served, we walked over to a sandy mound with a pile of hot coals on top. These plus the sand was removed to reveal heavy canvas wrap which was carefully swept clear of sand, removed and then a large many layer device was removed. It contained lots of small chickens and vegetables and potatoes etc. We went back to the large eating tent and feasted. Later live music from single muscien dancing started. There was a large communal, bathroom, some people showered, ordinary toilets, sleeping was comfortable, lots of blankets, good experience,

We were travelling North to South through Jordan by bicycle and contacted Mzied via Whatsapp. He was very responsive to messages despite our poor signal and although he gave us minimal information via text he was reliable and met us at the agreed place and time. On arrival he provided us the options available for a desert experience to suit our needs (and budget), which we discussed over tea in his house. He was attentive to our needs and as we required a few things for our onward cycle journey and desert stay, he took us to the local shop before the spectacular ride in to the desert.
The desert was in bloom and carpeted with flowers and Mzied was very excited that we would get to experience real bedouin life at this special time. It was clear Mzied was still in awe of his desert, enjoying the changing of the seasons, sights and smells despite living here all his life.
The accommodation was great and felt very private as it sits nestled behind a small sand dune, still with great views down the valley. There were a few different communal areas to suit every guests needs / desert weather. A personal highlight was sitting on the high point behind the camp at sunset and watching Mzied and his son and daughter ride our bikes (much better than us through the sand), evidently with much enjoyment! Tents, showers and toilets were spotless and comfortable (how does sand not get everywhere??). Food was excellent and plentiful with a special recommendation for the goats milk in the tea made with desert herbs.
Jeep tours can be pricey in Wadi Rum but as we wanted to get off the tourist trail Mzied suggested a viewpoint to the highest mountain in Jordan with the Saudi border in the distance. We only saw one other tourist jeep in that part of the desert when there are lots of jeeps in the main stretches, closer to Wadi Rum. Mzied understood we wanted to hike a little and as we were competent to not get lost (GPS on a phone is a great addition to any trip) facilitated us to scramble to a small mountain peak and hike back to the camp alone.
All in all, we had an extremely positive, memorable and tailored experience thanks to Mzied who facilitated us to enjoy the desert and bedouin life first hand.

let me just summarice my stay:
I wanted to stay during 4 days in the dessert, experiencing the real bedoein life. No 'fake' camping, no tourist-trails, just the real thing. And i found the right people for it.
Mzeid, a proud bedoein grandfather who speaks perfectly english, lives in his tent according the traditional way of life. His children bought a house in the village, buth they are mostly present to eat together with the family. They own +- 10 cammels near their tent, and aproximatly 120 sheep and goat.
They run a comfortable camp right behind the corner of their own tent, but i recommend to ask them to live with them, like i did. With pleasure they will grand it! Waking up, and drinking cammelmilk with breakfast, sharing constantly thea, cooking on the fireplace, making traditional coffee, .. I could go on... It was eye-opening and amazing.
During the stay, you can join their normal routine of life, and in the evening, just fall asleep while watching the most beautifull starheavens. I know I will never forget this family. During my 3 weeks of Jordan, this was the most natural and beautifull experience.

We spent 24 hours with him. It was unforgettable: he and his family are hospitable, sensitive, attentive. The kitchen was like being at home. The stars at night were one of the most beautiful things in my life. I would like to go back every time I want to dream!

Mzied was such a great host! He was very responsive via WhatsApp and made it very easy to find him when we arrived in Wadi Rum. Once there, he drove us to a number of different places so we could explore and rock climb, while also graciously taking photos for us. When we finally arrived at the camp, we were the only ones staying. The tents are simple with windows that open up to the sky and twin sized cot style beds with fun animal printed flannel sheets. It is very simple. But there is nothing else needed given the spectacular setting and the shining stars at night.
As previously mentioned, Mzied was great. He was super friendly, talkative, attentive to our needs, and a great cook! He cooked an amazing Jordanian chicken stew with vegetables, a side of rice, pita bread, and two types of salads with lots of middle eastern flavors. We all had seconds and exercised self-control to not load up a third time. In the morning he made this wonderful dish (unfortunately) named “foul” and labneh, with fresh coffee, Jordanian tea, and of course, more pita! He kindly drove us to a different property so we could watch the World Cup and woke us at 4:30am so we could go on a hot air balloon ride.
I was originally supposed to go as a solo female, but I had two friends join. I have to stay that I would easily go back on my own and stay with Mzied. Jordan is a stunningly beautiful country, with warm welcoming people, and Mzied is highly representative of the beauty and kindness that Jordan exhibits. I hope to go again and spend much longer time in Wadi Rum and hopefully I’m lucky enough to stay with Mzied.
