Beautiful setting and lovely welcoming hosts!

I had the opportunity to meet Joao and his lovely wife, Akeru while on a eBike tour. They were wonderful hosts, I shared a cup of tea and we talked about our shared experiences. I would definitely consider staying at their place when I next come to Goa.

Not recommended

I had a negative experience in this place. The owner, some 30 years my senior, messaged me in the evening saying he was having a drink. That made me feel very uncomfortable, especially given the property was quite isolated. Prior to that, when i asked about getting tuktuks, buses or other transport during the day, i was told that there was nothing around, the only valid option was to pay a staff from the house to drive me. When i asked about food places on a walking distance I was told there was nothing, but that the owner himself could drive me. I felt I had no choice but to rely on them. It turned out, across the train station there was transport and food options afterall. I do not recommend this place, especially to female solo travelers.

Here is my explanation. As this lady was from Portugal I wanted to talk to her about Portuguese houses and compare the subtle differences with houses in Goa. And so I messaged her to join me for a drink. Obviously, she misread the signal. I don't know what she means when she says my property is quite isolated as my house is surrounded by several houses. My staff also lives in the house as this is a home stay. We have no tuk tuks in our village. I did not say the only option is to pay a staff to drive her. There is one restaurant which is 20 minutes away and which is clean and safe for foreign stomachs. I offered to take her there and she accepted. I did not charge her. When we got to the restaurant she asked me to join her for dinner. As she would have to walk back I agreed. She suggested we share the food. We did and I paid for half of the food. Then I brought her back to the house with no charge. She told me she would be leaving the next day at seven. When I returned at 3 pm she was at our entrance door with her ruck sack on her back. I was surprised and asked her if she was leaving. She said yes, and then I asked her if she had paid my staff for her stay. She said no and asked - is it okay? If she hadn't paid and I was not back - what was her plan? Slip away without paying? I have thought about why she has written a lot of wrong information. Maybe I pressed a wrong button. When I asked her what she does for a living and she said she was a clinical psychologists I told her our Indian yogis have gone far deeper into the human mind than western psychologists. Did I make a lifetime enemy?
