We stayed here shortly after its opening and loved the chalet style accommodation and the extensive grounds where the children could safely play but the self-catering kitchen was a huge disappointment - very small and only kitted out with 2 microwaves, no hob or oven! I would not like to stay when it's fully booked. Excellently positioned for Chester Zoo which was the sole purpose of our stay.
Great helpful staff. The accommodation has comfortable bunk beds, wonderful gardens and plenty of space. Sadly someone has made a decision to equip the kitchen with only two microwaves and two sinks, no pots pans ovens or hobs so it is impossible to make anything other than a cold meal or a microwaved meal. There are two fridges so you can keep milk cold. There is very limited storage for residents food boxes. It is a great shame as it prevents groups cooking together on any scale. The showers are good, the bedding good. Dont forget to take your own soap for the shower.
We stayed at the YHA Chester Trafford during its opening week. There was a teething problem with our accommodation in that the shower in our ensuite room kept short circuiting. This however was quickly rectified by the staff with minimal disruption to ourselves. The hostel is a fab base for visiting Chester Zoo which was the purpose of our family visit as it is only 10-15 minutes drive away depending on the traffic. The hostel was lovely. The accommodation in the chalet style huts overlooking gardens was amazing in the summer with lots of grounds to explore . The accommodation was clean in both the room we had booked and in the main areas. The games room with a football table and a selection of board games such as chess, draughts was perfect for our family. The staff were very helpful and friendly and able to sort out our issue with the shower easily. The option at the time was cooked food was solely breakfast baps and I think if they can extend this to a full breakfast and supper club option this would be great. The reason being as the self catering kitchen is one of the smallest I have seen in a YHA with only a microwave option you are very limited to what you can cook yourself there. I would recommend this for families hoping to visit Chester and the areas.…
