Thank you for the input. Glad you appreciated the setting - it is truly beautiful here on Whidbey.
We found the source of the smell, will check the mattress you mentioned, and fix any problem once the season is over. As to the furniture you want us to replace, some are antiques dating to 1840.
If we had known of any of the issues at the time, we could have helped - it's easy to swap a mattress for something softer.
We will update the description so there isn't such a disconnect. As to making everything new, like our more recent homes, some very dramatic, a bit of perspective is in order.
BTW, I am the owner of Whidbey Retreats and Loreto Retreats, involved in all aspects of renovating these homes, so I am looking into this personally.
This is our original retreat, purposely kept "beachy" over the years catering to families who come every year to pick their favorite fruit from the orchard on the property, dig oysters or clams (this bay is home to some of the most famous in the world). Our regulars like the lived in feel of this home as they don't want to worry about tiptoeing around, young children doing damage with wet bathing suits on furniture or soaking beach towels on the carpet in the children's wing downstairs. This, along with a starfish or crab (not sure) maybe a dog (not allowed) created the smell. We cleaned, seems OK now, but we may have to replace some carpet. It's been our busiest season ever, and this house can take a beating as the only 6 bedroom home on the island with 200' of waterfront.
We are also updating the big screens shortly so no one will miss our Seahawks!
