We came to Anne's Retreat to experience the shepherd's hut way of life and explore the local area. We had high hopes after viewing it online and chatting to Euan, but the stay honestly exceeded all of our expectations. Euan was very very helpful before we arrived. He helped us to the hut and showed us everything we needed to know - faultless host from start to finish. The setting is very beautiful, with views over the Wye valley and the only other buildings in sight the other postcard-esque cottages on Penterry Farm. Then there's the huts. The beautiful interiors rival those of a luxury hotel, with a stunning super king size bed and handmade headboard. The bath is a dream, with a light option to view the woods while you lie back and relax. With both bath and shower, the heat and power of the water was incredible and everything was really easy to use. A definite highlight is the outdoor firepit and seating options, which made it hard to go inside even on cold October nights. We cooked sausages one morning and toasted marshmallows in the evening. Inside is a very charming miniature wood-burning stove which was super efficient and creates a great evening atmosphere after a long day's walking. Every single want and need has been preempted with the build and design of these two huts and we could have comfortably stayed for a whole week. If in doubt, definitely book! Suitable for all times of year and a brilliant escape from the world. Thanks for an unforgettable trip.

My partner was given a 4 night break here as a gift for her 50th birthday from her boss. I will start with the ONLY negative... it is a very challenging 2-3 mile drive to get to once off the main road. Very narrow single lane country roads with locals cutting through so be prepared for plenty of pulling over right up to close to hedges or lots of reversing up hills sometimes; This is the only negative at all. This place is absolutely unbelievable - it is a paradise. We are wildlife fanatics and so much here including owls, bats, deer, birds of prey, regular birds (including Bull finch, Nuthatches, Lesser spotted Woodpecker etc etc). The owner is a really nice person and until you see it yourself you will not believe how luxurious someone can make shepherds huts, the bathroom (which is a hut to itself) is better than any that I have used in any hotel and I have stayed in hundred of 4* hotels across the UK. The bed is supremely comfortable and the huts very cosy indeed. The positioning / location of them is private (right next to woodland, a wildflower area) and the outlook quite simply stunning. There is a fire pit for outdoor cooking if you do not want to cook indoors, hammock for relaxing on and really cool individual swing chairs. Plenty of walks locally with some brilliant viewpoints and surrounding villages excellent. Absolute perfection, there is nothing I can fault with the accommodation and location of the huts and nothing that they could improve upon.

Sadly our trip to Anne's Retreat was rescheduled twice due to covid and in the end cancelled due to local lockdowns. Such a shame we did not have the opportunity to visit but what I can say is the owners have gone over and above to help and support us. I hope in the future when things settle we will have the chance to visit. Thank you so much
