A beautiful, peaceful holiday in rural Andalucia
There were to have been four couples, but one of my brothers couldn't come at the last minute, so there were just me, my sister, the other brother and our spouses. We are not young! We rented Brazos Abiertos for 10 days in May. The first couple of evenings were cool, so we lit the stove, but after that the weather was warm. The area was hilly, with olive groves as far as the eye could see, and we had some pleasant walks around the quiet roads. The villa was well equipped, though we would have preferred double beds rather than the pushed-togther singles. The four bedrooms are set around a little courtyard, with a non-functioning pool/foutain in the centre. All is on one level, as though the house is two-storey, the upper floor is the owner's apartment (not used when the villa is rented). Note that, although the interior is wheelchair friendly, the driveway is quite steep, and even pushing a chair over to the pool could be difficult.

Swallow Site
I was fortunate to be able to rent this heavenly villa for a month. A succession of family and friends also enjoyed: the view ( mountain olive groves as far as the eye could see), the professional kitchen ( and outside grill ) , the seclusion ( invisible to GPS), the proximity to the great Moorish cities ( Granada, Cordoba, Ronda and Sevilla) , the neighbouring towns ( Iznajar, Rute, Algarinejo, and Priego de Cordoba), the dazzling pool ( swept clear of drowning insects by the swallows), dinners on the spacious patio ( oh the food) , the stars at night ( helped by a star gazing app), the well-stocked library and local guidebook ( especially Brit-lit) and the airy rooms ( all accessed by the interior courtyard). Every restaurant visited was good, better, or best and tapas were sublime. Late night, small club flamenco was emotionally dense. The Moorish architecture was simply breathtaking. The Semana Santa procession in Iznajar was a cultural experience I will never forget There were no disappointments but if I had to find one it would be the recommendation to visit the Chinese bazaar...fuggedabowit. I can still feel the breeze on the patio as we sit down to dinner.

What a view!
Brazos Abiertos was a perfect place for a family reunion. The views were gorgeous, the rooms comfortable, and the kitchen/bar area was huge! It made for a very comfortable stay and my 1 year old newphew loved going on nature walks down the road. We spent most of our days looking out at the beautiful olive grove landscape from the huge patio or sitting by the pool. I highly recommend Brazos Abiertos!

Wonderful holiday, wonderful memories of Brazos Abiertos and Iznajar
We have recently returned from our best ever holiday! Our whole family went including a baby and our 83 years young parents, such happy memories that we will treasure for every. The house was fabulous, totally level including access to the pool which was great for everyone. Great house absolutely everything we could have wished for and someone on hand to help if we needed it. We loved the huge kitchen which became the meeting point of the house where everyone shared the chores. The pool was great, the gardens and olive grove were great, the terrace was stunning and we spent a lot of time watching the stars after our BBQ. My elderly parents both had reikki treatments in the yurt, organized by the staff and on our last night we hired in a chef to cook us an amazing meal (also organized by the staff. We couldn't have managed without a car but we knew that from the information on the advert. Saying this we were only a couple of minutes from lots of bars and restaurants. Julie provided us with a great information pack on the house and the local areas including advice on places to see. We just followed this advice and it couldn't have been more perfect. Huge, huge thanks to Julie and Sheelagh for our unforgettable holiday.

Fabulous place
We have just returned from a superb holiday with friends at Brazos Abiertos. The house is huge and very comfortable, with four equal en suite bedrooms and views to die for. There is also an enormous terrace from which to take in the views and watch the sun set, whilst enjoying a glass of wine and a BBQ at the end of the day. In addition to all this, the owners, Sheelagh and Julie, are delightful people, who enhance your stay by their local knowledge and extremely friendly and practical approach. We will return. :)

Superb wheelchair accessible property
We stayed here very recently with our a teenage boy who is a wheelchair user. We had chosen the property for its access (which was amazing) but I must say that this would be a great place to stay even if you were all able bodied. The house is great, with four entirely accessible en suite bedrooms, a huge open plan living area, and a great kitchen. There are many resources at the house - DVDs, games, local information - which we found very useful in the heat of the day. Going back to the access, this house couldn't be bettered. The pool was superb, with a great hoist with a weighted garden chair which our child sometimes sat on in the pool to rest in the cool, and dead level access over from the house. Parking is on the same level as the house, right outside. There's a huge level patio as well. We simply couldn't have asked for more. And whenever we needed help or information Julie was a phone call away - be it finding us churros for breakfast or producing Vanish after a nosebleed disaster.

Stunning villa/hotel ideal for wheelchair users
We have recently returned from a 20 day self-catering holiday at Casa Brazos Abiertos late May/early June. As a T10 paraplegic and wheelchair user I can highly recommend the villa, which doubles as a 4 bedroom hotel for part of the year. The villa has a fantastic setting overlooking the mountains, all of which are covered by olive groves. The massive balcony area is ideal for alfresco dining, although we found it a bit chilly first thing in the morning and late evening when we first arrived, with a constant breeze. However, by the end of our holiday we were eating breakfast and evening meals outside as it became really warm and the breeze became a welcoming relief. In July/August I expect visitors will welcome the sun screen that is erected over part of the balcony. For a wheelchair user the villa is ideal, level surfaces, large doors and 4 good sized double bedrooms which all have twin beds that can be moved together to provide a large double. All bedrooms have en-suite wet rooms designed specifically for persons with a disability. The one we used had a wheeled shower seat, which Julie and Sheelagh the owners made sure was available when we arrived. We used the white and blue tiled "winter" bedroom, as the toilet in the shower room was slightly easier to transfer onto than the other 3 bathrooms. My only criticism as a wheelchair user is that the drop down handrails adjacent to each toilet are really on the wrong side, architects never get this right! The wall fixed handrails were also a little far away to be useful for transferring. However, in the blue tiled bathroom it is possible to position the wheelchair at right angles to the front of the toilet and use the handrail to help transfer. Anyone used to transferring themselves would not really have any difficulty. There were also wall fixed handrails in the shower area, ideal for those who need added support when standing. The pool area is also fantastic, with 8 metal framed sunbeds, which for a wheelchair user are far better than the plastic ones normally provided. They are at normal height, but the armrests provide good support when transferring. The pool is a good size, although the depth is slightly less than normal at the deep end, about 4ft, which Julie explained was a requirement to obtain the necessary permit. The pool also has an electric hoist, which I did use a number of times to get out of the pool (mainly to try it out!). I didn't venture into the pool using the hoist, I'm not one for slow torture being lowered into cold water an inch at a time, even though I can only feel from the chest upwards! The water was quite cold when we first arrived, but by the second week had noticeably got warmer. The view from the pool was again stunning. There is also a sun screened area by the pool, which we found really pleasant when we found the sun was getting too hot for us. The temperature got up to 38 degrees the last few days we were there. The first couple of weeks we were joined by my two daughters, their partners and our three grandchildren. When booking, you must accept that the location really is rural Spain. Locally it is ideal for walking, cycling and if you enjoy architecture, visiting the local towns. Unfortunately most are built on hills, so wheelchair access is quite challenging. The views of the lake are fantastic from the approach roads, but whilst we were there the water level was high and covered the beach. Also it was quite quiet, I suspect many of the activities at the lake are planned during July and August. It takes just over an hour to drive down to the beaches at Malaga and Torremolinos even using the motorways. We found the 46-M toll motorway the best and didn't mind the €4.90 fee at weekends (cheaper midweek), reduced to €1.50 on the return trip if done on the same day. We enjoy strolling along the beach fronts and the promenades are ideal for this for a wheelchair user. All beaches have wheelchair access and timber wheelchair paths onto the beach. Weekends at the beaches were really busy and near impossible to find parking spaces unless you arrived really early. Midweek is the best time to go, much quieter and parking less of a problem. Our preferred beach was at Torre Del Mar near Velez-Malaga, which takes slightly longer to drive to via the A341. The drive is stunning with a variety of different scenery, a welcome relief from olive trees! We also enjoyed the drives around the Parque Natural Sierras Subbeticas to the north of the villa and The Torcal, near Antequera, an unbelievable area of natural beauty. One of my daughters and her partner went on one of the longer walks at The Torcal and said it was really enjoyable, they came across numerous Iberian Ibex and saw the Griffon vultures flying. My other daughter's family visited the Wolf Park, also near Antequera and the Crocodile Park in Torremolinos, the children loved both. They also went to Aqualand Water Park for a day and had a fantastic time. Our visit to Alhambra Palace was also an unbelievable experience, although also a bit of a disappointment. My daughter and partner took her children during the day and had a really great time walking through the gardens and visiting the palace. My other daughter and partner decided to go for the night visit and also bought us tickets. We arrived a couple of hours early so we could take our time waking through the gardens, only to find that we were denied access until the time shown on the evening ticket. There was really nothing to do or see outside of the Palace grounds, so to kill time we went to a local hotel for a meal, which wasn't very good and quite expensive. When we arrived at the entrance just before the time on the ticket, we were told the ticket was only to visit the Palace itself and the gardens were closed. The night time entrance was down a hill closer to the Palace, a walk of about a quarter of a mile or more. The staff at the Alhambra were excellent and provided ramps allowing me to see most of the areas visitors can access. There were a couple of detours, but we were able to see most of the rooms, which were unbelievable and the lighting at night was fantastic. The tickets are cheaper for the night session, but they do not explain the visit excludes the garden areas. We would have liked to return in the day to see the gardens, but decided against a return trip. Whilst visiting the Alhambra, it is worth making a day of it and driving up to the Sierra Nevada mountains beforehand. We did a fleeting trip up to the skiing resort, which was closed off, but the views are wonderful and if you enjoy walking there are hundreds of trails. A special thanks to Julie and Sheelagh, who visited regularly to ensure everything was perfect for us at the villa. Everything was provided, even plenty of beach towels for the pool area. We would recommend Casa Brazos Abiertos to anyone wanting a quiet, peaceful and unforgettable holiday in a rural setting. Steve and Barbara

Brilliant holiday, great house and the location near to Iznajar is superb
Had a great time at brazos Abiertos for a week this March. The house was exceptionally well equipped, tons and tons of space. No queueing for the bathrooms as all the rooms were en suite. We had a real traditional family holiday here, talking, playing games in the evening . watching the stars which was a novelty. We didnt use the poo´l but it was spotless as was the whole house when we arrived. Glad to have the underfloor heating everywhere as it was a bit chilly in the evenings. Hoping to return again in the summer months, thanks for a great holiday. Oh almost forgot ate a few times at El Charcon, great food huge protions.

Fabulous House, Fabulous Holiday
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend a holiday at Casa Brazos, loads and I mean loads of space both in the house and the olive grove which the kids loved exploring. The house had everything we needed and it was obvious that this was a much loved house and not just a holiday rental. We loved the lounge which was huge and plenty of space for different members of our family to have their own area, plenty of comfortable seating inside and out, wet rooms a big hit with everyone. We were still able to use the pool during the day and once again comfortable beds, chairs and tables around it. Our favourite was the little donkeys which we were able to pet, so cute and gave us all hours of entertainment. In the evenings it did turn cool but the whole house has underfloor heating ,add to that a cosy log fire and a few glasses of wine perfect. Staff are available to look after the heating, donkeys and garden but were not at all intrusive infact we hardly saw them but was good to get some inside info on local area and tings to do. We actually did a lot less than we expected to because we enjoyed being in the house, playing and cooking in the professional kitchen...Masterchef here we come! My mother had a Reiki treatment in the yurt which she thoroughly enjoyed. My parents are elderly and appreciated that the whole house was level no steps to trip over.Really sorry to leave but I am sure we will be back.
