My brother and I stayed here for a month while completing a program at VIU. It was a perfect location to walk everyday and contained everything we needed for a long term stay. Owners were great and revised our dates kindly without question. My only concern was the neighbors do yell uncomfortably loud at night sometimes, otherwise great stay.

A Truly Remarkable Canadian Experience: Review of our Long Stay at Blue Heron Hideway, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. First of all words alone can’t describe how lovely this place is. It is best experienced than described. Our remarkable experience is briefly describe in 3 parts (The Suite, The Area of Location and The Owners): Please look no further, for anyone or any family visiting this pristine island whether for short or long term vacation or for a romantic getaway or for work or for a temporary abode while transitioning during a complete relocation, I strongly recommend Blue Heron Hideway, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island. It is my “go to place” when it comes to mixing affordable luxurious yet simple accommodation with peace and serenity. The Suite: The suite was very bright inside with first class appliances all luxuriously placed to ensure a very warm welcome. The combination of large windows with window-blinds and bold modern lighting lamp holders provided an excellent space for living. The interior was beautifully and simply decorated with all white brand new goods. From major kitchen appliances such as blender, toaster, microwave, electric kettle, efficient cooker and oven with overhead expeller hob, massive fridge/freezer compartment, dish washer to lighter requirements such as chinaware dishes, mugs, cutlery, cooking pans/pots, wine glasses, slicing boards, bowls, and a lot more with plenty of shelves for storage. Modern dual compact kitchen sink with already existing dish washing liquid and plenty of type-specific bin liners for use with the provided re-cycling bins throughout the property. There was no need to even bring a food-waste compost bin bag or liner as this was already provided. Even to the tiniest of details, things such as salt, pepper and a fruit bowl with fruits was spotted at the heart of the dining area. The bedrooms were of decent sizes with the quality cushioned beds (not springs but pleasantly soft) well made with 3 layers of white sheets (anti-allergy mattress protection covers, sheets with band and plain topping high quality cotton sheets). These were all topped up with soft pillows covered in exquisite pillow cases and pleasant duvet wrapped with designer velvet bed foot-bands. There was also an abundance of change over sheets available at the suite. Modern art decorations embellished the walls of both bedrooms. A decent sized wardrobe and modern drawers were available for adequate storage. The lounge had unique modern sofas with antique leaning qualities and a centre-piece carpet with refined colour-matching tables dotted loosely. Tasty artistic frames were hung across the walls of the lounge and the hall entrance area into the suite had a massive mural painting with a large bottle vase. There was a massive TV set hooked up both to a TV box with endless viewing channels and an Internet wifi box coupled with matching surround cinema speakers for the ultimate listening pleasure. At the other end of the lounge is a door that opens up to a balcony that is cute and decorated to have a firm and relaxing view of the outdoors. The washroom consisted of a toilet, sink and bath-tub with a shower overhead. A mirror and modern art decor also hung up on the walls of washroom. There was also plenty of storage space with a hair dryer sitting in one of the storage compartments. Just prior to the entrance into the washroom was a lot of in-built storage compartment. There were also lots of brand new changing white-towels and hand-towels already provided. The sanitary standards were the highest we have seen in a while. Cleaning appliances including washing machine and separate dryer were available. Washing liquids for use with the washing machine was already provided. An efficient vacuum cleaner, mop and other cleaning materials were provided. There was also an electric iron and ironing board to keep clothes looking stretched and radiant. There were plenty of storage spaces and just after the main entrance door, there was a shoe tray and coat/jacket hanger to keep everything neat, organized and tidy. Flowers in flower pots were splashed around the suite to give that beautiful and relaxing feel throughout our stay at the suite. There was also high quality wooden floor throughout the property making it appealing to look at and walk on. The utility for hot water and heating system was efficient and easy to use during cold nights. It was easy to switch up or turn down heating by simply adjusting temperature knobs to get a suitable ambient temperature inside the suite. Safety facilities like fire detectors and smoke alarm gadgets were dotted efficiently around the suite. The interior decoration was well laid out and simple yet so luxurious and beautiful, it was always fun and a relaxing environment for truly unwinding. I miss this place so much. The next time we are in town for a family vacation or for work, we will definitely use this suite again. The Area of Location: The location of the property is very central and serene without the noise that comes with typically central locations of the city. The suite boasts of two associated car parking slots in front of the property. For people who prefer not to use a car, everything that is important is easily within walkable distances. There is a shopping mall called University Village within 7 to 8 minutes’ walk away. A couple of good restaurants are within 3 to 4 minutes away. Downtown is also within 12 to 14 minutes’ walk away. If you prefer to take the bus, there are about a couple of bus stops within 2 minutes’ walk away and the area is regularly served with bus #5 and #6. About 4 minutes’ walk away, there is a bus stop for the popular bus #40 which also goes to the prestigious Vancouver Island University (VIU), Nanaimo. Just across from the property through the road is a small bridge with a small stream that has protected aquatic life. Also there are plenty of trees and green areas outside around the suite. A gaze forward, you will find the popular Mount Benson towering across the skyline. It is truly an amazing and a fantastic sight to behold. There are also schools within walkable distances from the suite. The indoor swimming facility (the aquatic centre) is also close by. The historic old city quarter, museum, waterfront and all the glamorous city highlights towards downtown are all accessible and within walking distance from the suite. The neighbours around the area were very nice and friendly. We experienced zero percent crime throughout our long stay at the property. The area was safe and peaceful. We were highly favoured to find such an environment that was so close to downtown, city amenities and shopping areas, but it was still able to offer the peace and quietness of remote living. Taking morning walks to site-seeing areas around was very refreshing and memorable especially with the freshness and unique air quality of the outdoors around the suite. The Owners: Owner, Rosanna and husband James were phenomenal at the reception we received from them as our host. They were very friendly but yet very professional with their approach. Having been able to come up with such a suite at a very affordable price, it did not stop them from offering assistance freely. They offered their help at every time we asked questions even on most occasions going out of their way to help. They have hearts of gold. Their flexibility, mannerism, customer-centric approach, and instantaneous availability to help was definitely world-class. They never made up stories or put up false description of the property or tried to paint an image that did not exist. Everything they said about the property before we arrived was definitely as they said it and even much more than we expected. They are extremely trustworthy, friendly, reliable and always looking to improve and provide solutions to any questions we had. We got a real taste of a truly remarkable Canadian experience with their friendly reception. Truly top class people, we will definitely like to work with them in the future.
