Mountshade provides superb modern accommodation. It is situated a few miles from Banchory near the village of Strachan, and the surrounding countryside is quiet and very pretty, with nice views of the mountains to the south as you look through the fringe of trees. It is very roomy inside with everything you might need for self-catering, fridge freezer, cooker, washing machine, lots of sockets for charging our many electrical gadgets like phones and cameras, good wifi, TV, an excellent en-suite in our bedroom as well as a separate bathroom, both with good showers. There are two double bedrooms and a single, so as there were only two of us we perhaps did not need so large a property, but it was lovely to have so much space, and we would be very happy to return. Everything is clean, modern and in perfect working order, comfortable beds and sofas, we could have lived here for ever! It is a few miles from the nearest shops and restaurants, so it is probably not for you if you like to go out clubbing every night, and there was no phone signal on O2, hence our score for local amenities is the only slight negative, but we loved the peace and quiet, getting up early in the morning to watch the woodpecker on the bird feeder with all the other birds like the daft pigeon who couldn't quite work out how to get at the food, and the baby rabbits running around. If you travel about five miles, there are excellent shops and eateries in Banchory, which is a pleasant little town. We found this to be a great base to explore all the beautiful castles and gardens in the area and to do some gentle walking. The owners live nearby if you need anything.
