This was our 3rd stay at Watersend House.
Great location, amazing garden and huge house with oodles of space.
Myself, my hubby and our five dogs absolutely love staying at Watersend, the garden is huge, enclosed, but not enough to keep our unruly lot safe, we usually pack a roll up fence and some stakes, to put across the top of the lawn, to stop the dogs wandering onto the drive which is shared with the little cottage next door and to stop the smallest, wriggling under the gate, onto the road.
If you have well trained, obedient hounds that don’t wander and are larger, then you would not need to consider packing the fence, the enclosed garden will be good for you.
Garden is also great for children, if you have any. Very safe and lots of room to run around.
Inside the house, it’s clean, warm and bright, very welcoming and despite the size of the lounge, very comfy, beds are comfy and kitchen well equipped.
The hot tub is always cleaned after each guest has stayed, before next arrive, it’s a nice addition to the property, but I don’t always indulge.
Car parking is ample, either at the bottom of the garden, behind big electric gates or at the top by the house, on the drive.
The house is situated a small distance from Watergate bay, you can walk down the hill, to the bay, but at busy times, you may not want to walk, as the road is narrow, without paths.
Watergate bay itself, has little to entertain you, there is a new restaurant just opened and it looks rather nice, although we didn’t try it, Jamie Oliver also has his restaurant ‘15’ there, and there is also a pub and the main watergate bay hotel. Watergate Bay, being fairly quiet is part of the appeal. You are a short drive from Newquay which is very convenient for night time entertainment, or a pizza from Stable, fish and chips from Steins, or any other carry out you may require.
Or you can just lock yourself away in Watersend house, cook lovely meals and enjoy relaxing times on the sun terrace...the location and house lends itself to this nicely. You can get your shopping delivered from Sainsbury’s or I guess Tesco or Asda would deliver too.
The owner, Justin, is a really genuine and nice guy, nothing is too much trouble and he is always on hand, to offer support, should you require it.
We have booked to return June 2020 and we can’t wait.
My only concern for us personally, which would not affect many people that stay at Watersend, is that Justin is currently building what looks like a magnificent house, quite close to Watersend House, there was no building work activity kwhilst we were there this year, however, there may be next June, when we return. With the tooing and throing of people etc, it’ll more than likely disturb the hounds, where they will end up barking at anyone or all. May not be as relaxing as we’d like, but we are going to give it a go 😊
Another thought, is that with building activity on going, the top drive may be out of use, so unloading of the car will need to be carried out from the bottom of the garden, which would nit suitable for older people or disabled people. It’s also quite a distance to carry luggage and is uphill.
All in all, a most enjoyable stay again, the dogs love it and the beach is clean and usually quiet out of season. The beach is dog friendly all year round and quite often, early in the morning or later in the evening, you can be the only people on the beach!!!
There are no negatives to staying at Watersend House, only positives, we’ve enjoyed every stay so far, very relaxing times and a bonus that Justin is cool for our five hounds to stay too.
Highly recommend a visit to Watersend House, whether you are looking for spacious, romantic retreat or a family get together holiday, you will not be disappointed!!!
