Wonderful cottage in a lovely village The only negative is the entrances are low with result of the taller person hitting their head Perhaps a sign above would be beneficial Onsaying that it would not stop me from returning which I definitely will

Lovely village
The cottage is in a lovely location although parking was a little tight - only one car will actually fit inside the walled area. The accommodation is good with plenty of room, although there were only 5 of us and we had a pleasant stay. The welcome hamper was also a lovely surprise.
However the kitchen particularly could use a good clean - worktops and cupboard fronts were greasy. There were also some very dusty and cobwebby corners. Overall the cottage is in need of some tlc - door hinges need oiling to prevent squeaks, radiator in lounge painting etc. so it couldn't be described as luxury. Also on the various websites it is listed on it stated either an x-box or playstation - ok there was one but would have expected more than just the one game provided.

Visited the cottage for a few nights in early October 2018. The facilities were great! Lots of toiletries provided and other nice touches like a cake and pint of milk waiting for us. The beds were comfortable and the cottage was lovely and warm - even when it was close to freezing outside! It’s much bigger than it looks. We were 7 adults and a dog but never felt cramped. A brilliant location for exploring Teesdale!

Needs TLC
Situated in the heart of the lovely friendly village of Cotherstone. The cottage is large and spacious but is in desperate need of some TLC. The bedrooms had a clothes moth problem, smoke alarms were due to be replaced two years ago, electrical PAT testing was 7 years out of date, velux fire escape was screwed shut, remote controls for tv and dvd didn't work, loose rocking floorboards at top of stairs, tiles falling off in ground floor shower and cubicle leaking, shower head held on riser arm with zip ties to name a few. All this aside we did have a nice time . After contacting Chris the owner he did apologise and told me he has started to put things right. In the correct condition i could highly recommend the cottage but at present doesn't meet what I'd expect for £900 a week.

Very comfortable weekend for four generations of our family!
We love Teesdale and have had many weekends in the dale but this was our first time at Red Lion Cottage. We needed a family base from which to attend our Nephew's wedding at Lartington Hall, in the next village about a mile away (an amazing venue, but for another review!). We were six adults plus a baby, age range 5 months to 94 years! The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable, spacious dining room and comfortable living room. We had a really comfortable and relaxing weekend. Sunday lunch at the Rose & Crown in Romaldkirk, a couple of miles up the dale, was excellent. A minor caveat is that the top floor rooms are a little cramped for adults, although would be fine for children. We used them to let the youngest and oldest in our party have the excellent first floor bedrooms. Overall, highly recommended.

Spacious, comfy, warm and lovely location
We loved it, kids loved and our friends loved it. The house is homely and warm, with lots of space and a central location in the village. All the rooms are of a very good size and well fitted, nothing flash, but nothing cheap either. The bathroom and shower room have proper showers and are a great size. The kitchen is a good size with everything you could need to make a Sunday roast or bake a cake. The beds are comfy, clean and don't squeak, the dining room and front room are ideal for entertaining or a gathering and being within 5 minutes walk of two pubs is very handy. Their is a convience store across the road and a cafe in the village for all your needs. Barnard Castle is a 15 minute drive for shopping, supermarkets, restaurants and a couple of not so hot night clubs as well as a cricket club and just about everything else you might want. From the house itself you can go on excellent walks in the surrounding area, or a have a run by the River Tees (Highly recommended, but can get a bit wet and muddy) or take a drive up to High force water falls and have a beer after at the High Force Hotel across from the falls. Cant recommend this house enough, the area and people are lovely, open and sincere. Go and Enjoy..

Very well appointed in a great location
The village the cottage is in, is particularly nice. Two pubs - one with lovely evening meals a local shop and a cafe for breakfast if you didn't want to cook it yourself! The cottage is a good size - there were four of us and we were definitely not crowded! The only continuing problem was the head height thru' some doorways.......in our opinion it would be a good idea to have more warning signs and/or buffers to stop heads being bashed....my husband cut his head and banged it several more times as did our male friend.....There were lots of useful "everyday" things left in the kitchen...salt, pepper, washing-up liquid etc. We would definitely recommend the cottage.

Perfect hideaway in a glorious little village!
We stayed here the first week of June and had a fantastic time with the whole family. More than enough space for everyone, great surrounds and perfect walks right out from your doorstep with public footpaths all over the village.
It was a 5 minute drive to Barnard Castle which has plenty of amenities for eating etc... Very close for visiting High Force waterfall too which was a great sight!
Lovely little cottage that was just perfect to what we needed and wanted! Highly recommended.

Lovely Family Weekend
What a beautiful cottage. We stayed as a family over a rainy wet weekend in November, in this snug cosy cottage, with the craft ale pub next door. I arrived later to my parents and arrived at around 6pm to find my mum merrily cooking away in the brilliantly stocked kitchen. Chris the owner had also left us a cake and some jams and the family had also been to the Cotherstone fireworks which he'd recommended which the family thoroughly enjoyed.
Very close to Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum, we also had a lovely walk to an amazing waterfall which wasn't far. So many walks from the campsite, and we had a meal at the Fox and Hounds in Cotherstone (a short walk away) which was so nice.
We felt like we moved in! Plenty of space, really warm and a luxurious fizzy bath which we all had a relax in, we had such a nice time. For a family stay it was perfect for us, thankyou so much! Chris also very kindly took a percentage off the price as we didn't use the 4th bedroom. Lovely time away.

Perfect weekend
Myself and immediate family were in area for family weeding, and needed somewhere to stay. I found the cottage and thought it would be good, turned out to be brilliant. The cottage was spacious, comfortable and filled all our needs. We had a great weeding and then spent the rest of the weekend walking in the beautiful area. Only problem 3 nights wasn't enough. Would revisit again.
