The cottage was more spacious than we expected. It was very well equipped and tastefully furnished. We had everything we needed and more. Our hosts, as well as warmly welcoming us, left several useful food items to get us started.
We found Barnard Castle a lovely bustling market town, with lots of good shops and cafes, and it was an excellent location for exploring Teesdale.

Brilliant place to stay.
Dave and Linda are lovely people who are unobtrusive but available and willing to assist your needs throughout your stay.
There is a folder in the accommodation that has Local Adventure Opportunity as well as Eating places with the Menu included.
The accommodation is amazing !
The quality throughout, is second to none.
The Kitchen is equipped with everything you need.
Everything is clean and comfortable.
The owners live next door but you never hear from each other, you are left to your selves but with help nearby if you should need it.
Dave built the log burning Sauna every day so all we had to do was enjoy it.
The Sauna is brand new and so enjoyable.
To wrap it up>
We enjoyed the comfort and surroundings and had a really relaxing time.
I would recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic Cottage!
A fantastic cottage with everything you could think of and more! The hot tub was amazing and many a night spent listening to the birds and watching the stars. When you smile everytime you return you know the owners have done something right! David and Linda are a lovely couple and fantastic hosts.

A lovely cosy cottage with hot tub.....
Well located not far from Barnard Castle......a lovely market town.
Great shower room and a fun wood fired hot tub for relaxing after your day.
Comfortable seating and bed. Nice view of the pretty garden. We even had a sauna and a spacious dressing room. Robes and slippers provided.
A very friendly welcome from Linda who is a font of knowledge about the area and the Bowes Museum.
Fabulous river walking in the area along the River Tees and the Pennine Way.
Visit High Force and Low Force and the amazing Cauldron Snout by a reservoir.
A beautiful area to explore and don’t miss Durham with its amazing cathedral setting.

Amazing
Stayed here for 3 nights. Due to Covid our Paris trip was cancelled. But this sure made up for it as a relaxing break. It’s a super cute cottage that sleeps two. There’s a log burning hot tub and a sauna too! Amazing! Linda and David are superstars. The sweetest people. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Always checked if we wanted the hot tub heating up etc. Linda had baked us a loaf of bread too on our arrival which was very nice! There was also eggs, butter, milk, homemade jam and marmalade in the fridge too. Barnard castle village is around 3-5 min drive which has some nice tea rooms, shops etc. The surrounding areas of the cottage are stunning too. So whether you’re staying in or going out there’s always something to do. I don’t usually go out of my way to write reviews but honestly, these guys deserve it, thank you so much again! Xxx

Excellent Stay
We had a really good 3 night stay. Linda and David were really welcoming and friendly. Linda even provided a home baked loaf, homemade marmalade, homemade jam and butter, all of which my husband particularly enjoyed. The cottage has been completely renovated in the past 5 years and is David’s ongoing project, having recently been extended to accommodate a sauna. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed. If we’re visiting the area again we wouldn’t look for anywhere else to stay.

Amazing stay at Avelin Cottage
We had a wonderful time at Avelin. Absolutely amazing hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Reccomended to friends and family and will return our selves. Cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished with plenty of garden space to relax and breath in the fresh air. Linda kindly stocked the fridge with breakfast items which saved us a lot of hassle in the morning. Bed was beautifully comfortable, best night's sleep in a long time. Cannot wait to return!

Fabulous!
Wonderful warm welcome from Linda and David. Breakfast goodies were a lovely bonus. Cottage was immaculate, very relaxing colour scheme, with every single thing you could need for a week, weekend or longer. Cottage is deceptively spacious. Hot tub was great and David kept it ready for us. We really appreciated the chats and the quiet peaceful surroundings. Lots of historic places to visit if you wish. Plenty of info in the cottage and Linda knows the area well. Thanks to you both, and we shall be back!

Wonderful Self Catering Accomodation
Highly recommend this idyllic cottage! My husband and I have just returned from a three night stay there. It's a beautiful two person cottage with absolutely everything provided for extreme comfort. Wonderfully welcoming hosts who even provide all supplies for breakfasts! If you are looking for excellent self catering accommodation in this area you must stay in this property! No hesitation what so ever in recommending this place.
