A wonderful location and outstanding accomodation
Crompton Forest Lodge has been beautifully renovated and to the very highest standard. It was spotlessly clean and very very tastefully decorated. The cottage had everything we were looking for including a log burning stove.
The area, just north of Pickering, had plenty to keep our family busy including a great forsetry commission site with orienteering and bike hire, we also did day trips into Yourk and up to Robin Hoods Bay, and did some lovely walks in the area. The surrounding villages were rich with gastro pubs and we managed to find a cream tea nearly every day.
Sue and Ben are wonderful hosts and this was probably our best holiday cottage experience today. We highly recommend Crompton Forest Lodge and wish Sue and Ben all the best.

Brillant, Tranquil place, absolutely Fab.
Everything was absolutely brillant and would advise any person to go and enjoy this rural part of Yorkshire and the beautiful Lodge we stayed in. On arrival until departure you couldnt fault the premises, Sue & Ben have got everything covered to the best possible angle. It was a delight, didnt want to head home at all. Woke up in the monring to see the Deer in the forest side, pheasants galore and just so much wildlife wondering about. Bliss..... Sue and Ben have a beautiful dog to called Finlay who is an absolute star. All I can say is - if you dont go you will be missing out on an one hell of a spot.

Return to a wonderful place
This was our second visit to Cropton Forest Lodge and it was just as wonderful as the first time. The accommodation is second to none. It is luxurious and relaxing, everything you could wish for and is located in the most loveliest surroundings. The area is perfect for walking or touring around in the car. Ben and Sue try their upmost to make sure that everything is perfect for your stay. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We will definitely be returning again and would recommend a stay here to anyone.

Beautiful relaxing location!
We spent four nights at Meadow's Edge - a beautiful cottage with stunning views looking out on the forest and meadow behind the lodge. If you want a secluded stress-free break this is the perfect place. Ben and Sue were really welcoming and friendly and couldn't have done anything more. It was everything we expected and more - cosy lounge/kitchen with a lovely fire place and beautifully furnished bedroom and bathroom. Everything you could ever need including two thermos flasks which were very useful for our day trips! The shared conservatory and patio idea with the sofas and boot room is a great idea and would give families/groups space to relax in the evenings, as well as lots of reading material/dvds. Fab shower and brilliantly comfy bed. We were lucky enough to see deer grazing each night just outside the window in the lounge! Managed to do a lot in four days at the coast - taking advantage of the quiet mid-week - Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby, as well as Helmsley, Rievaulx abbey and the North York Moors railway to Goathland. Pickering has some lovely shops/cafes too. Will definitely be recommending the cottages to everyone we know!

Perfect cottage and friendliest hosts in remote location
From the moment we arrived we knew we had chosen the right place to stay. The welcome from Ben could not have been more friendly and helpful. Our groceries had been delivered and Ben had put everything away for us! He helped to carry our bags in and showed us around the cottage and the other areas including the extensive library of maps and information, all of which we were free to use. We stayed in Meadows Edge which was perfect in every way - large rooms, comfortable beds, super en-suite shower rooms and even a "loo with a view"! Sue and Ben have done a fantastic job in converting the old buildings into beautiful home-from-home cottages with amazing attention to detail - they have thought of everything, even a huge fireplace with wood burning stove prepared for you to use plus candles and tea-lights for a romantic cosy feel. The location is lovely in the middle of the forest, but be prepared for a two mile drive through forestry commission land on roads which had some serious pot-holes! On the plus side you have to drive slowly anyway, and you get to see a lot of wildlife! We had a great week and loved the location not too far from Pickering and the steam railway. We were sorry to leave especially as Sue and Ben were so friendly and gave us a lovely send-off - we felt like we were leaving old friends!

A fabulous holiday with wonderful accommodation in a superb setting
The cottage is extremely well appointed - all you could want plus more! There is a massive comfortable bed, beautiful furnishings and a well equipped kitchen. A woodburner was particularly welcome in the depths of the winter snow which Ben had already lit for our arrival. The hosts, Sue and Ben, were most welcoming and obliging - always ready with offers of information or assistance. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The setting is exceptional, along a small road with forest and farmland views from every window. We loved the walks in the forest and frequent sightings of deer - once on the lawn outside the cottage! We felt that we were in a 'Winter Wonderland' and it was very hard to leave! This was our second holiday at Cropton Forest Lodge, having also stayed last summer, and we will definitely be back.

Off the beaten track amidst the wild beauty of the North York. Moors
If you want to escape from it all and stay somewhere off the beaten track, Cropton Forest Lodge Cottages is the perfect place. Tucked away amidst the raw beauty of the North Yorkshire Moors, these 5* link cottages provide the high standards of a hotel (complete with all those nice complimentary touches) with the flexibility of self catering.
Unlike the gloomy February weather, our congenial hosts, Sue and Ben welcomed us warmly. From the reservation through to our stay the booking process was efficient and helpful with plenty of suggestions for things to do in the area and places to eat. We filled our days easily – a day at Eden Camp, a day’s walking from the doorstep on the Moors to Hole of Horcum including a trip on the N.Y.M Railway and a visit to Ryedale Folk Museum on our last day. Cropton Forest Lodge was an ideal base to come back to after busy days with its lovely log burning stove and comfy sofas.
Whilst this cottage is not available to families with young children, do not let this dissuade you from visiting this beautiful, serene and peaceful region. We hope to come back. Many thanks.

A wonderful place to stay
We stayed for 5 nights and had a great time. Ben and Sue could not have done more to welcome us. The lounge is a great place to relax, and the accomodation excellent and one of the cleanest places we have ever stayed at.
This is truly a 5 star place to stay.

A wonderful hidden gem of a place
I stayed at the Meadows Edge cottage in October with my wife and her parents.
We were looking for a luxury cottage hideaway in close proximity to the village of Pickering as we were going to see the War Weekend events at Pickering and the surrounding villages.
All I can say about Meadows Edge is that it was everything we had wished for and more than we had hoped.
The cottage is immaculate and clean.
All the amenities you could ask for were present.
The cottage is quiet, warm and cosy and we loved having the wood burner going in the evenings after a long day out.
The cottage is set in the forest and has amazing scenery around it.
Although I regret not exploring the forest around the cottage we did see many pheasants and some wild deer nearby.
At night time we also heard the sound of owls.
Occasionally you come across a little gem of a place and this is it.
My thanks to Ben and Sue for looking after us before and during out stay.
I look forward to returning again soon.
