Lack of customer service between booking time and arrival
First, let me start off by saying that the main house itself is gorgeous, well-built, has amazing views and comfortable beds. Now for the issues. In March of 2023 I reserved and paid for my 3 night stay in full. The day I was leaving for vacation I received emails asking for my credit card so they could process my payment. I promptly replied that I'd already paid in full and supplied screen shots of my transaction from my bank account and the Bungalo confirmation. This was very troubling as I didn't know what to expect when we arrived and wasn't what I imagined for an international trip. The day of travel, I received an email assuring me that the matter regarding the payment would be handled. What I didn't receive until the day of arrival, and only because I asked, was the information on how to access the property or the house. At the top of a very steep gravel road is a security gate. We had instructions in the email to call a phone number and the gate would be opened. Our US Verizon serviced phone was unable to get to a person or gate access. We only heard music being played and the gate didn't open. Two of us in our group decided to walk down the driveway and look for the house. It wasn't clearly marked as we only had GPS coordinates for location. We eventually found the house and identified it based on the pictures I had viewed on the Bungalo.com site from which I'd booked. The day we arrived at the villa, I received an email which contained several links and helpful resources including the lock box access code. The email didn't contain the security alarm code nor was it sent to us as promised. Needless to say, once we opened the door to the villa, the alarm system was triggered. After several attempts to disable the alarm, I called 112 (Iceland's 911). While the alarm situation was being handled by me, my friend located a telephone on the counter which was used to open the gate from the house. The first call to 112 resulted in them hanging up on me. The second time I called 112, I was patched through to the security company. After a lengthy conversation, the security company eventually gave me the instructions to disable the alarm which had become locked. With the instructions, after approximately an hour, I was able to deactivate the alarm. Thank goodness. I feel like I'm still suffering hearing loss due to the alarm. While I was on the phone with the security team, I emailed the host customer service asking for the code but it was too late to enter it because of the locked status on the security device. After the alarm was disabled, I emailed the customer service team again because there were only 2 keys in the lockbox, not 3. Only one was functional for the house. The smaller guest house was locked and inaccessible. The customer service team again responded that I should look in the key box for the set of 3 keys. We were a group of 6 women. We'd planned on having 2 bathrooms. The customer service team has since resonded that they had the house prepared for 6 people but failed to address not having access to the guest house bathroom and bedroom space. Since they asked for a review an I responded with all of these issues including the hot tub not being full or heated, tehy sent me a link to the informational page about the hot tub not being available in the winter. They sent this in response to my complaint but there was no mention of seasonal use of the hot tub on the Bungalo.com site. More... The kitchen countertop had crumbs and dead insects on it. The bathroom vanity light didn't work. There was dried urine on the toilet. Fortunately we decided that we'd make the best of it. We enjoyed the home, fireplace and view.
