We had a wonderful time at the Dolphin Inn. The house is wonderfully appointed and maintained, the property is centrally located but uniquely private (unusual for most of the OBX beach homes), and the proximity to the beach (4minute walk) was fantastic. The house: the Dophin Inn is a three-story dream rental. We had a group of six adults and two children. Several adults needed to work remotely and were able to use the three ground floor bedrooms as remote offices. The top floor is fantastic - the open floor plan allowed us all to participate in meal preparations while still engaging with the whole family - and the views of sunrise over the water and sunset over the woods were lovely. The house is also extremely well-appointed. The kitchen was especially terrific. Due to COVID, we cooked all but two meals at the house and were able to cook everything we might have made at our own homes. Pots, pans, electric mixer (whipped cream!), kitchen tools - all labeled and in great condition. The home was immaculate when we arrived and each bedroom was outfitted with pillows, blankets, lots of storage space, and almost all (save for two downstairs bunkrooms) had direct access to outside decks. We particularly appreciated that every bed has an extension cord with numerous outlets affixed nicely to the bedpost - really convenient. The laundry machines are great, and had it not been quite cold (December) we would have loved to have used the hot tub (and look forward to a summer visit to use the pool). Our toddler was over the moon to find a pirate ship in the backyard (and a “giant sandbox” (aka volleyball court). And we all enjoyed the extensive and (again, as with all things in the home) well-labeled DVD library, especially on rainy days. The hosts: Jorge truly could not have been more helpful or accommodating. Even before we booked, he worked with us to secure dates and he ensured that precautions would be taken to keep our family safe and comfortable in these challenging times. Prior to arrival, Jorge was accessible and tremendously helpful. He and Susannah have put together a very thoughtfully-designed welcome packet/ guide to the home. The guide will help to both acquaint you with the house and allow you navigate through any needs during your stay (e.g., we felt better about going to urgent care when we had a health concern because Jorge and Susannah recommended a specific location and shared their experiences there). During the stay, Jorge kept us updated with necessary information regarding things like COVID curfew changes in NC, check out procedures, recycling pickup, and he helped us to troubleshoot a problem with the internet within a matter of minutes. He also recommended some great daytrips. The location: The Dophin Inn is just a block away from a small path to a beautiful and quiet beach. We walked there each day with dogs, toddlers, and an adult with some mobility concerns; it was very easy. The house itself is on a main road, situated right between the lovely town of Duck and several stores/restaurants in Kitty Hawk. Getting to and from day trips to Corolla, Roanoke, Jockey Ridge (go!!), etc. is really easy. The house is set back nicely with room for several cars to park out front and a private backyard that is well protected from view by trees and bushes. It feels both private and accessible. Any group would be fortunate to spend time at the Dolphin Inn. Thanks, again, to Jorge and Susannah for opening their home to guests. We hope to return soon!
