Stayed here at Hydrangea House for a couple of nights in July 2020 in a mixed group of six. First things first the house sleeps ten, via four bedrooms, (the larger your party the better value it is if you can share the cost)one of the bedrooms has bunk beds the other three are double but the top floor has a double bed and pull out bed allowing an extra two people to sleep comfortably. All the rooms have bathrooms, but note the room with the bunk beds and the adjoining double share the adjoining bathroom via their own doors which are able to be locked from the inside for privacy if required. We found the house in a short terrace, just off the main road, take the turning past number 13, the house is a couple of hundred yards on the right, took us a couple of sweeps to locate property. Parking is on the road, free and parked across the road opposite some flats, very easy.
The house was spotless really clean, a nice lounge with comfortable furniture, TV’s in all the bedrooms and lounge area all with full internet access, Sky TV and Netflix, not that we had too much time for watching. There is a fabulous bathroom downstairs with a huge bath, chandelier and shell like tiling very nice and inviting.
The kitchen was fully equipped, oven, microwave, fridge freezer, Nespresso machine, mountains of baking trays, utensils etc., with a huge long table with seating, there were two fridges at either end with bottle racks for your beer and champagne, most excellent. There was also a washing machine and tumble drier handy for drying your swim costume if required. The house has access to all cleaning tools and materials presumably if you stay longer and want to keep things ship shape.
Outside, sliding Louvre doors lead out to a decking area, there is a brilliant gas barbeque that was amazing to cook on. There is also a six person Hot tub, which was primed and ready to go, has loads of water jets with three different settings, the water was fresh and crystal clear, it was great to use this at night, listening to music, staring up at the stars and forgetting about everything but the moment, truly relaxing, and very warm. Noted some safety information and guidelines for use, easy to operate, and adhering to the guidelines will keep you safe and the water at its best quality.
Further down the garden there is a seating area and a fire pit complete with logs to burn, feels like the owners have thought of everything, even providing hot tub towels on hooks in the kitchen to dry yourself, there are garden lights which will help you enjoy your time outside, whether it’s sitting around the fire or gazing at the stars whilst being massaged by the hot bubbly water in the tub, we also found some aromatherapy granules that we added to make the water smell sensational, we spent so much time relaxing in the space. The house also has a BOSE speaker system that you can connect your device to allowing your own private choice of music or sounds, great for the tub, we chose some Tibetan singing jar sounds for a total chill out sensation.
No noise at night and the beds and linen were high quality, great night sleep, kettles in the room with a nice selection of fairtrade tea and coffee, would have liked to see some hot chocolate, but I suppose some things you will need to buy yourself. Waitrose is moments away any has everything you will need, if you are looking at the other end of the scale there is an ALDI a short drive away.
Plenty of clean white towels and soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner all provided in push dispenser bottle, amazing botanical scents, very invigorating. Found the water pressure in the showers good, didn’t get round to trying out the downstairs bath, but it looked inviting. We spent so much time enjoying the hot tub and outside space that at times we just forgot about the outside world and this is what a holiday should do take you away from your normal routine, the house does this and more pampering to your every desire, taking you on an amazing journey of relaxation and destressing. Hats off to Kevin and Jo the owners, they have done an amazing job, they even baked us a cake prior to our arrival! There was also a welcome pack in the fridge, food for breakfast and an amazing bottle of wine, it was great popping the cork on arrival, and enjoying the outside space,
If you get time to leave the house, we took the military canal pathway and walked to Sandgate about 3 miles, we sat and drank Tea by the beach and looked around the antique shops before getting the bus back. Hythe town centre is just a few minutes’ walk, full of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes most of which appeared open. In the town there is also the famed steam railway which can take you to Dymchurch and beyond, unfortunately didn’t get time for this, but we intend to return soon and spend some more quality time at Hydrangea House. Thankyou Jo and Kev for an amazing time XXX.
