We had a lovely stay at the Bucket and Spade, it was very hot while we were there and Mo, the owner, kindly let us use our fan in the room otherwise it would have been too hot!
This is a room on the top floor of Mo's house, like a guest house, but with just the one room for guests. Mo lives downstairs. Some of the photos are of the entrance and front porch which are available for you to use if you want. You get a key for the front door and a separate key for your room. Your room is up a narrow staircase from the downstairs entrance hall.
The room has a double bed, a single bed and a sofa bed. There is restricted headroom as this room is in the roof area of the property, but you can stand up if you walk down the centre section. The room also has a fridge (no Ice compartment), kettle, toaster, dining table and 4 chairs, built in wardrobe with some games and hangers. a small bedside type cupboard with cereals in. (there is no space beside the beds for bedside tables), cutlery, dishes and plates for 4 and an en-suite with shower, basin and toilet.
There are lovely views to the sea from the main double window, a roof window (with blind) and a bathroom window. These are all double glazed and fairly new. We loved the roof window as you could block out all light, there are white curtains on the main window.
When we stayed the temperature was hot, I suggest if its over 24C outside you will need a fan to keep cool. There are plenty of mains sockets for you to use for this, and phone chargers etc. Mo does not come in your room and leaves you alone most of the time, but always seems to be there if you need anything.
This is not a bed and breakfast, we just expected a room and fridge and bring our own stuff, but its not quite like that. There is a huge selection of items provided by Mo (which we didnt expect, but was very nice), namely, 3 breakfast cereals, 2 litres of milk, 12 Yoghurts, Grapes, apples, mandarins, butter, jam, marmalade, coffee, tea, even a loaf of bread!
The room is tastefully decorated with pictures and ornaments of the seaside, mirrors and a nice carpet.
Improvements: Just couldn't get comfortable in the bed as the mattress is very soft (but that may be a personal thing as my partner was fine), also the sofa was a low back, which I know is popular now, but not my style. However, these small problems are not enough to take away a star, as Mo has made a tremendous effort to make the room perfect. She has done a much better job than I could do.
The double bed has a footboard, which might be an issue for tall people, but was fine for us. Ventilation was good as there are 3 windows. Plenty of towels and toilet rolls, Mo replaces anything you need more of and even does your washing up for you!
Location of the Bucket and Spade is fantastic. Perranporth is a small typical Cornwall seaside town with a variety of people, there's not really anywhere posh, it has 4 pubs, 2 Indian restaurants, 2 Chinese takeaways, a couple of Pizza takeaways and Thai, lots of Ice cream and souvenir shops. a Large beach with a strong tide. A nice boating lake and putting green near the room. No noisy bunches of lads of girls, mostly families. We loved it in Perranporth. You can walk to the centre of town in less than 2 minutes and the beach in 5 minutes.
