Inspiring house in a perfect location

We loved the quirkiness, space and laid-back comfort of the house - not to mention the incredible views from almost every window. With easily walkable access to two beaches and Llandanwg station, we barely used the car all week. It was very hard to leave.

Character house with spectacular views

Murmur-y-Don is a character house in an amazing location high up from the road, just a mile from Harlech. The house looks onto an incredibly beautiful beach below, but also has sea views all around. The house itself is built in the Arts & Crafts style and remains true and authentic. The house has not been refurbished or altered in a way that would spoil its' character; therefore lovers of new fitted kitchens may not find this to their taste. However, if you want a comfortable, quirky, welcoming house with bags of character and history Murmur-y-Don will be perfect. The sunsets from the house are amazing to see from the circular window in the main living room, but also from nearly every window in the house too. The beach below is reached by a path situated on the opposite side of the road to the house, there are loads of steep steps and a small railway line to cross before reaching the beach, about 10 minutes in total, but once on the beach the exertion and effort of getting there is forgotten as the beach is incredible, until you return that is... Don't bother taking a book to read, there are loads of wonderful books in the house, along with games and a piano. The turning from the drive onto the road is steep, so care does need to be taken, but once you've done this a few times, it becomes easier. There is parking at the top of the drive and half way up. There are lots of places to visit locally, Harlech is a lovely little town and the castle is brilliant. We visited the Purple Moose brewery and shop in Portmadog, which was interesting, as well as the Festinniog railway. We did venture onto Bounce Below at Zip World which is about 20 minutes away. You need strong nerves for this. As a result of the slate mining, Festinniog town and surrounding area is a bit bleak, but just outside the town the views are really beautiful. We loved our time here and would visit again without hesitation.
