Upon arrival, we noticed the area surrounding the VRBO/Apartment building is not welcoming. The surrounding area is not lacking in concrete, but is very much lacking in green space. There is no shortage of parking lots and parking deck. However, you do have to haul your luggage across the street from the parking lot to the apartment building. The exterior of the apartment building is dated as well. However, the interior of the building has been recently renovated and is attractive in an industrial sort of way.
The key pad was not working for the guest that were trying to get in the building ahead of us. So, someone on the inside let them and us into the building. When we arrived later in the evening, someone also let us in the building.
When we arrived inside the apartment unit we were all welcomed with a very unpleasant smell. It was a mix of fast food and an extremely over powering odor of rubber tires (imagine going into a tire store and multiply that smell by a 1000%.) However, the apartment itself was clean.
We left soon after arrival due to dinner plans. When we arrived back around 9:30pm, the fast food odor had dispersed, but the strong "rubber" fumes had not. We immediately went to bed, but at 3:45 am I woke up coughing and with a headache due to the persistent odor that only seemed to be getting stronger. With a total of 45 minutes of restless sleep, I packed our bags and left.
I messaged the property manager about the issue and let them know that I did not believe that it was anything that the cleaning crew had done. They seemed sympathetic and reimbursed me $15 so that we could "grab coffee" for our inconvenience.
