Just returned from a nine-day family reunion getaway at the charming Apple Knoll Inn and Cottages. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Daniel is an extremely responsive host and did a terrific job of communicating throughout the process, including handling a minor issue with the pool after we had arrived. The key things that we were looking for -- 8 bedrooms, plenty of baths, a large modern kitchen, fast/reliable wifi, pretty setting and a yard with large grill -- were all exactly as described. However, other than the kitchen, this is definitely not a "luxury" property. The rooms, furnishings and finishes are old and are not in a consistent state of repair. The bedrooms all have window AC units, the pool area is quite small and shaded, and the cottages, while clean and functional, were a bit shabby inside (the bathroom floor in one cabin was unfinished). Cooking in the kitchen was enjoyable and there were plenty of utensils, plates, glasses, etc. once we found everything. Seating for family dinners was challenging -- we had to split our party one night -- because the dining room only holds 10-12 people. Also, there is only a small 4-6 person table for eating outside, which is odd for a house with 8 bedrooms. The large grill worked well and was perfect for even the largest group, and the fire pit was perfect for late night gatherings. Finally, the house is close to Route 100, which is a major north-south road. The road noise during the day is noticeable though, happily, it was quiet at night and the rooms are well insulated.Assuming that you understand that this is an older property which has been cared for but also shows its age, then you will not be disappointed with the Apple Knoll, and Daniel is everything you could ask for in a host.
