Another 12 days in paradise
This was our 4th year in a row in suite 709, Honua Kai, our 9th at HK. Beautiful suite, great facilities, fantastic location. Everyone is friendly. Great accessibility to beach. Fantastic walkway to Black Rock and Whaler's Village. Large food store very close at hand. Exciting drive up island on Nipili Hwy. Kihei close at hand and Heliakala a very interesting visit.
If you don't feel like cooking, Duke's is onsite for either appies or a full meal.
Looking forward to your next visit.

Unbelievable stay!
We have stayed in Maui many times but I must say this was the best experience we have ever had. This condo is stunning with travertine flooring, pocket doors that open to the outside and great views of the ocean. We watched the whales juking right from the condo. Maui Westside Properties that manages this condo was the best. They were attentive to all our needs and even checked in with us during our stay. can't recommend this property enough.

Fabulous Views and Sunsets, Beautiful Condo, Honua Kai -- Hokulani 709
So many good things to say about this resort and this condo that I'll try do do a bit of organizing:
The Condo. This two bedroom condo is in the Hokulani building of Honua Kai. It is on the 7th floor, which is the top of this "stack" so there's no one above you It has a wrap around lanai, which gives gorgeous views over the ocean with perfect views of Molokai across the channel. Spectacular sunsets. There's a dining table on the lanai plus two chairs with footstools. There is also a Viking grill. The interior of the condo is close to perfect with everything in working order when we were there. The condo was very clean and well cared for -- we didn't even notice any normal wear & tear. The two bedrooms are good sized and each has an en suite bathroom. The large master bathroom has two separate sink areas and has a nice walk-in shower, but no bathtub. The second bedroom has a normal size bathroom with a tub/shower combo. The beds are comfortable with good quality bed linens. There's also a half bath in the entryway and bath linens are generously supplied. The soaps, shampoo, etc., are exceptionally nice L'Occitane products. The decor is subtle, and the furniture is attractive and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked, very clean and had everything we needed for cooking a few meals during our visit. The one thing that I had heard before but still found surprising is the dryer for the washer/dryer unit. I think that all the units at Honua Kai have these stacked, front load, apartment-size units and while the washer works fine, the dryer is slow, slow, slow. We worked around it but it took 2-3 hours to dry each load. Still, it is wonderful to have a washer/dryer when on vacation. And if the most negative thing I can say about the condo is that the dryer is slow, that says a whole lot more good than bad.
The Resort: We really enjoyed Honua Kai and its amenities. You are issued "bracelet" on arrival that serves as your key to the condo and also to the fitness center, parking garage, etc. We found this convenient, especially since the plastic bracelets are waterproof. The are two small shops at Honua Kai (one in each building) with a surprisingly good selection of groceries, wine, beer, alcohol, etc., plus some sandwiches, coffee drinks, smoothies, acai bowls, Thai Iced Tea and more. The two shops are entirely different so you may want to visit both. There's also Duke's restaurant at the resort. We had a very tasty and pleasant lunch and breakfast there. There are several pools at the resort and we thoroughly enjoyed the Kaanapali beachwalk, which runs in front of this hotel and many others. The beach is reasonably wide here and we were excited to see a few sea turtles in the water between Honua Kai and the Aston hotel next door. You have a choice of valet or self parking at Honua Kai both of which are free and convenient. The valet staff was very good and our car was always delivered within minutes by the very pleasant gentlemen on duty. We also self-parked part of the time and once the valets explain it to you, you can park a few steps from the elevator that is just down the hall from 709, which was very convenient.
The area: This was our first stay in the Kaanapali area and we enjoyed it. The sunsets were one of the highlights for us, and the view from 709 can't be beat. There's a Times Supermarket about a block from the hotel, which is convenient. It is a full size grocery with a deli, a small pharmacy, a bakery, etc. We found the lack of much local produce disappointing, but other than that, you can get just about anything that you need at this store. Next to the supermarket, there's a pancake restaurant called Slappy Cakes that was a real surprise since we had never seen "make your own" pancakes with a griddle on each table. Chocolate pancakes with coconut, peanut butter chips and macadamia nuts -- wow! We also had surprisingly good shave ice at a little shop in this shopping center. There are food trucks across the street from the supermarket and although we thought the Thai food truck was average at best, it is very nice to have easy access to a variety of options.
We'll definitely consider returning to the Honua Kai and specifically, to 709, on our next trip to Maui.

This was an amazing condo at an beautiful resort. Maui Westside Properties kept in touch before & after my stay. Very Professional Company! I will use them again & again. Barb was amazing & so nice! Happy Customer.

Beautiful view
This is indeed a beautiful location and the views are as described. All kitchen essentials were first rate.
Pros: beautiful, nicely decorated, very roomy, nice bath amenities. Views were gorgeous. The grounds are kept up nicely.
Cons: no remote for one tv in the bedroom. Talked with Barb and no replacement available, so we were advised to change channels manually on the tv itself. While this certainly didn't ruin our vacation, for $800.00 per night, EVERYTHING should be in good working order in our opinion!
This is not a good swimming beach... beware of lots of rocks and stick ups under the water.

This place is amazing!
We just got back from a week in Maui and a stay in Hokulani 709. Our condo could not have been more perfect for our family of four. It was plenty spacious, the beds were comfortable and the views from the lanai were amazing! It was also great to have a grill so we could cook a few meals at home to save some money.
Walt and Maui Westside Properties were so easy to work with and very responsive to any issues we were having. When we first arrived we only found one boogie board instead of two and the beach chairs were kind of falling apart. Within an hour of texting Walt, we had an additional boogie board and two new chairs.
I would highly recommend this unit or anything else Maui Westside Properties has to offer. We can't wait to come back!
