Just spent 4 amazing days at Ocean View under the majestic heights of Sliabh Mór and overlooking the beach. What a setting. The area is steeped in history. I would recommend that you read 'The Preacher and The Prelate' and 'The Veiled Woman of Achill' if you want to fully appreciate the history of the immediate locale of Dugort. I highly recommend this accommodation. Thanks Val.

Lovely house in great location
We were greeted by Val at the house. He explained everything & handed over the keys. Upstairs & downstairs are open plan which we knew in advance. Everything worked well & we had a great holiday.
The downside is the beds, they are all in need of replacing. Springs can be felt on all the double beds, none of us slept well on them.

The double bed mattresses on the first floor, even though in constant use since the start of the season, are relatively new. Feedback on those continues to be positive. They will soon be replaced in line with normal procedure.
The somewhat worn double bed mattress on the ground floor was inadvertently put in place during a fast changeover. This occurred because this mattress was mistakenly identified as the newer one, which was next to it in the storage room. This anomaly has been rectified. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Perfect island getaway
Good location two lovely beaches nearby. The cottage was very clean and well equipped and Val was very friendly. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants some within walking distance. The scenery is stunning even in the rain.

Beautiful cozy perfect
We stayed here over the weekend while we were taking part in Achill Quest and it was perfect I loved the house very clean and warm, not to mention the stunning location with the beach a few minutes walk from the house, the Owner was lovely and we enjoyed chatting with him, He gave great directions and met us at the house. I would highly recommend this lovely house we will be back for sure.

Amazing place . .
Took my gorgeous girlfriend to achill island for her 50th and we loved it . . Ocean view cottage was lovely and overlooking the beach and mountains . Owner gave us directions over the phone and met us there very helpful . . Would come back again . Richard and Rebecca . . .

Excellent
We were met on arrival by Val who gave a very thorough introduction to the cottage. The cottage itself was great, clean, tidy and fully stocked with all the possible amenities required.
The floor space is quite large, we had a toddler with us who enjoyed the open plan element to use while playing with his toys. The screen in the bedroom was quite useful also.
The location of the cottage was a perfect base for early morning walks on the beach and an easy walk across the strand to the pub in the evenings.
The only downside we had was not with the cottage but it seemed that the Island had all but closed down with shops, restaurants and coffee shops in the area mostly all closed for the season and bars not serving food. (2nd week of September).
We will for sure be back to Ocean View Cottage but perhaps in the summer next time!
Thanks to Val for being a good host and being thorough in all aspects with follow up phonecalls etc.

Delighted to get receive another really positive review. It's good to know that everyone, including the little one, enjoyed all that Ocean View has to offer. Yes, some establishments offer a restricted service in late September before resuming fully in late October for the Halloween break. Hopefully, this trend will be reversed in the near future. The Vance family are most welcome at Ocean View any time of year!

Great cottage with spectacular views of a stunning location.
Loads to do in Achill! Absolutely perfect for walking, cycling, swimming...Ocean view is overlooking a beautiful beach and within easy walking distance of good venues for a meal and a drink. The Strand Bar and Pure Magic in one direction and Mastersons in the other direction.
The valley House is worth a visit and again is within walking distance or a short bike ride of Ocean View. The Valley House has an interesting history and a lot of character. We had a very relaxing beer in the courtyard on a beautiful sunny day, they serve food and there is a craft shop on site with local hand crafted gifts.

Great location, nice, spacious house, nice host.
After a warm welcome the owner showed us the house. It is spacious and well furnished. The two floors are connected by an open staircase.
On our next visit in Achill Ocean View will be the location of our choice again.

Break Away
When we arrived we were greeted very warmly by the owners, they provide excellent service, the place was very tidy and clean and had everything you wanted for a nice break away from all the hustle and bustle of every day life, house was very warm and cosy (especially with the open fire).
I would very much recommend this property and would definitely stay there again next year when we head down.

We are delighted to receive another positive review. The weather wasn’t great during all of December 2015 and therefore, as always, it was extremely important to ensure that the accommodation was warm and cosy at all times. The oil fired central heating plus the open fire ensures that this is accomplished. Participants in a wide range of outdoor pursuit activities are always extremely thankful for the very comfortable surroundings on their return. The instantly warm showering and drying facilities also help in this regard. The well equipped kitchen with its electric cooker, microwave oven etc ensures that warm food is quickly prepared and consumed.

A great place to recharge the batteries!
Well equipped and comfortable rental. There is an abundance of local natural amenities which would take years to explore. Actually "Ocean View" is an ideal starting point for exploring the whole of Achill Island. The area is not overly developed but is within walking distance of some excellent restaurants and pubs i.e. The Cottage Café, Mastersons, The Valley House and The Strand Hotel to mention but a few. My friends appreciated the freedom to re-arrange the open plan design on the first floor to suit individual tastes. The space dividers were ideal in this regard. Can't wait to make a return visit to the same location.

I?m in total agreement with this reviewer when he says that ?location? is one of ?Ocean View?s? outstanding attributes. While not in competition with the ?Ritz? Ocean View is designed to appeal to a diverse range of visitor and to make the vacation as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible. With regard to the ?open plan? design of the main sleeping area on the first floor the space dividers are used to good effect to accommodate same or mixed gender groups. All that?s required is some creativity as the single beds, in particular, are light weight and easily re-arranged. The same applies to all-age categories but elders should bear in mind that there are two short stair climbs (ten steps in total.) to be negotiated on the way to the first floor.
