Loved Every Minute at St. Mac's - Beautiful View and Close to Everything!

We couldn't have asked for a more wonderful place to stay in Roatan. The upper level of St. Mac's is spectacular. 3 bedroom, 3 bath, safe, very clean, spectacular views, close to many restaurants, shopping, entertainment, water taxi's are literally right out front of the house, the best snorkeling can be experienced walking out the door a few paces to the water. Not kidding. We snorkeled several times a day on all areas of the island and had a wonderful experience right in front of the house. Wonderful. Sam and Ruth were accessible during our entire stay and were exceptionally helpful with everything from searching things to experience, booking excursions, tips on where to go etc. The owner we dealt with prior to booking was great to work with as well. Her name is Kasey. We made the deposits with her and she made our arrangements for pickup and drop off at the airport. Really everything went wonderfully. Marty picked us up from the airport and took us to the store so we could shop for snacks, ice and beverages then we asked if he would take us to a gas station so that we could air up our rafts so we were ready to hit the water upon arrival! haha. Marty was fantastic and we hired his wife and daughter to come prepare an island meal for the 4 of us at the house one evening. The food was fantastic as well. "Blackie's Island Cooking." One minor incident with security: For 7 days we had a security guard we called "E". He was wonderful. Friendly, always there, watched everything on the beach for us, just fantastic. Our last few days we had new security as they rotate and we had one minor issue that was quickly resolved by Sam (property manager). What happened is that some vendors walking by shouted up to the patio where we were relaxing and although we said we would let them know if we were interested in a massage later, one of the ladies took it upon herself to walk up the stairs, come into the house and knock on the patio window where we were sitting. We escorted her out and immediately contacted Sam to come assess the situation and at least we wanted to let someone know what had transpired. Although we had no big problem, it was uncomfortable that security did nothing to stop her from walking up and into the house. Our previous security "E" wouldn't let anyone pass the rope separating the property from the beach. Anyway, all worked out... the vendors know not to do this. Security knows not to allow this but you might want to lock the doors even when you are in the house just in case. The housekeeper came about 3 times over the 10 days we were there. Everything was wonderful. The living room area is very spacious. Water was provided, a local pre-paid cell phone was provided to us to make arrangements for transportation and book excursions with. We had free WI-fi..We were completely happy with St. Mac's upper level. It really was wonderful. I'll post photos of some of the inside space, house and patio views. We'd absolutely come back again. Very pleased with our experience at St. Mac's. Thank you Sam, Ruth, Marty and Kasey for a memorable experience. Greatly appreciated. We love St. Mac's!

Perfect Get Away - St. Mac's Upper Level"

We stayed at St. Mac's last December and will be going back again this year. Excellent views from the upper patio and the perfect place to have breakfast, lunch, afternoon cocktails or just get out of the sun for awhile but still enjoy the beach. The home is comfortable and clean but not as upscale as the home next door and behind. They both have been recently remodeled. We debated on getting the one next door on the beach for this coming December, but decided we liked the large upper deck where you can watch all the action, but feel a little safer and have no worries about anyone coming on your patio from the beach. There is a security guard that patrols the area, but with upstairs deck we could leave all our gear outside and not worry about it disappearing. We also loved the convenient location - the beach in your front yard, restaurants 1/4-1/2 mile down the beach, amazing reef 50-100 yards away, fishing boats, water taxis, dive boats stop in front of the house as well as all the beach vendors bringing you everything you could want and more, which can be a good or bad thing. You can basically stay in your beach chair and be brought cigars, cold beer, empanadas, banana donuts, coconut juice, ice cream, jewelry, sunglasses, massage, etc. Some advice, be firm when you say "no." Do not say "maybe" if you are not interested as they will keep coming back. Also be careful of the "free 5 minute massage." Once they start and you get relaxed, there is no turning back. If you want a message make sure you firmly establish a price first. All the venders know who is new because they walk up and down the beach all day long. They also know you have more money when you first get there. There are police that patrol the beach to keep the venders from taking over, but they are still there. One of our favorites was the donut man. Also watch out for the middle men when booking an excursion, negotiate your own deals with the captains. We rented snorkel gear from the Bananarama which is about 1/4 mile to the right down the beach for a week for about $30. Highly recommend this. Snorkeling was best to the left of St. Macs all the way to the far left. Loved paddle boarding with Anita. She has a booth with her daughter Delaney near the Bananarama Hotel. Anita is a great instructor. They are reasonable and treat you like family. Lots of great restaurants just down the beach. We also enjoyed the Hermit Crab Races at the Bananarama in support of a local charity. Look for specials as different restaurants have a deal one night a week. I believe the Bananarama had $5 hamburgers on Mondays or something like that and other restaurants had lobster specials. Some additional activities we enjoyed were: Frenchy's 44 - enjoyed the zoo and the tranquility of the island. No venders. It was nice to have one afternoon where I did not have to say "no thank you" 20 times. Anthony's Key - we did the training session with the dolphins - great experience. Fishing/Snorkeling trip - do not combine the two, do one or the other. We caught one Barracuda over a few hours. Had to go out past the reef and the water was rough. We loved snorkeling near Sandy Bay where there was an area with lots of starfish and another area called the Blue Channel. ***Find out the cruise ship schedule and book your activities on the days they are not coming to shore.*** We liked West Bay and the home. It was perfect for our needs. However, if you are looking for total peace and quiet, this is probably not the best choice.

AMAZING! Already booked to return.

We didn't know what to expect when we arrived on Roatan. We further didn't know what to expect of the house. What we found was a gorgeous beach house that literally sat on the sands of the beach with the calm, blue waters of the ocean right in front. The house was clean, modern, and absolutely charming. We spent a lot of time sitting on the deck that overlooked the beach - sleeping in the hammocks, reading under the ceiling fans that provided a cool breeze, or eating our meals at the table. The beach is lined with fun activities, bars, and restaurants. Dive shops are scattered around and easily accessible for incredible dives all day long. Or you can just walk into the water, swim out a little bit, and be in perfect snorkeling spots. The house was located in a little beach village called West Bay Village. A security guard stood at the beach entrance 24/7 and a closed gate was located on the back end. The village was well kept. Island House Roatan, the vacation rental agency, was very helpful and on hand at any time during the day. The concierge, Junior, is awesome! He's friendly, knowledgeable and ready to help out in any way possible to make sure your trip is only the best. Halfway through our vacation we were loving it so much, we booked for the following year at St. Mac's Upper Level. We can't wait to get back there! Thank you to St. Mac's and Island House Roatan for an amazing trip!

Watching the world go by!

St. Mac's Upper Beach house is the perfect place to kick back, enjoy the beach, people watch and snorkel just a 2 minute walk away. The house is spacious and the upper deck with the 2 hammocks make you feel you never leave the beach. There is enough space to enjoy both family and friends while letting you have personal quiet time. Well stocked kitchen, spacious bedrooms each with a private deck if you need alone time. Literally 100 steps to the beach to beach chairs or to your nice shaded yard with chairs to watch the world go by. Many people return year after year to West Bay so are friendly and gather on the dock each night to toast another day and the setting of the sun. There is a group that walk every morning to do hill walks as well as beach walks. Has a community feel to the place indeed . There is a security guard 24 hours a day to assist you if needed. The Honduran people are very respectful of your private space so will not come on the property without an invitation to sell you anything. All the beach services are literally in front of you so you can take part or just find a chair and relax. A five minute walk back of the property is a lovely Java House and LALa's for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Within 2 minutes on the beach side you will find places to catch a drink or a snack. The snorkelling is fantastic and St. Mac's is right there! No need for longgg walks or water taxis to get to the snorkelling. We did mention to the rental agency about possibly upgrading the dishwasher and fridge but they are aware of these concerns. It was wonderful of the rental agency to ask us questions about likes and dislikes. St. Mac's is a gem for a great getaway!

Perfect!

Perfect spot. Totally on the beach. Stepped right onto beach where snorkeling, paddle boarding Eric await. Tons of beach restaurants within walking distance, dive shops too! Took our adult daughters and son in law. Plenty of room, nicely equipped. Driver stopped at the store and we bought food. Already booked for next year!

A fabulous home with great views...its perfect!

This is the second time we have rented this home. We love this house, especially the upper covered deck with its cool breezes. When we aren't in the water snorkeling, diving, swimming or paddle boarding or just walking the beach, we hang out on the deck and just soak up the view. We tend to cook in a lot, and the house has everything you need to prepare a basic meal. Our favorite places to dine out: Beachers - Coconut Shrimp is the best I've ever had. Tongs (now called the Thai Place) is amazing (located in the West End) - Nice & Spicy has good Thai as well and is in West Bay. Bite on the Beach in West Bay for fresh salads, great pasta and fish dishes we have never had a bad meal here.

Another great stay at St Mac's upper. I highly recommend for a larger group since it has 3 bedrooms. The front deck is fantastic and the kitchen is very nice. Bedrooms large. Overall I think it's one of the best on West Bay.

Everyone stops and stares!

I'm telling you the truth. Everyone who walks down the beach stops and looks at this house! They are thinking, "Why didn't we know about this place?" All I can say is I'm glad I found it on tripadvisor! From the moment we arrived at the airport they had someone to help us with our bags, the driver Marty was amazing and stopped at the grocery store on the way for us. Everyone who worked at the property management was amazing and helped with anything we needed. What can I say about the house? All you have to do is look at the pictures. The view is amazing! We had a 2 year old, a 3 year old and a 5 year old, the porch out front is open railing. It makes for a better view, but I was a little nervous with the kids. They did fine, though. If we ever go back which I hope we do, I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. This house is a quiet, beautiful sanctuary on West Bay. So different from all the other condos and beach cabins. This is a true beach house. Nothing to compare to it really. Thank you guys for a wonderful time. You made it so easy and comfortable!

Best spot on West Bay

We had two families with three kids staying a week and there was plenty of room. The house was very safe and situated right on the beach. Once you navigate the crazy road to the house everything else is easy. House has all amenities you would need except clothes washing machine but cheap to get them cleaned. Hopefully they might add a hair drier. Hammocks on the deck were wonderful place to relax, read a book, watch the sun setting. Staff were great, whenever we needed something they came over quickly ( their office is very close by). The house is now flanked by resort hotels which was a shame but meant heaps of places to eat along the beach. We would go back.
